“Copter That Crashed into Hudson River is Pulled Out”

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The aircraft, which did not appear to be damaged badly, was owned by Liberty Helicopters, which runs sightseeing excursions around the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Manhattan.

Vessels that were on the river on Saturday rescued the seven passengers and the pilot, who had donned life jackets, from the bobbing aircraft. The passengers and pilot were in the river, which separates Manhattan and New Jersey, for less than five minutes before being rescued.

Passengers said it appeared the helicopter had engine trouble before it went down”

“Senators eye registration of SIM cards”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “MANILA, Philippines—The Senate will work for the mandatory registration of all SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards used inside mobile phones to curb the use of these mobile gadgets for criminal activities.
Senators Richard Gordon and Panfilo Lacson have filed separate bills aimed at clamping down on crimes facilitated by mobile phones.

Mobile phones, activated by a pre- or post-paid SIM card, provide a cheap and efficient way to communicate without revealing a person’s identity. Requiring users to register their SIM cards would be effective in curbing abuse of this technology, said Gordon.

Related bills also propose stiffer jail terms for cell phone snatchers.”
