Russia Suspends Participation in Arms Control Treaty

MOSCOW—Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree suspending Russia’s participation in a key European arms control treaty, the Kremlin said Saturday.
The Kremlin said in a statement the need to pull out of Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty was linked to “extraordinary circumstances ... which affect the security of the Russian Federation and require immediate measures.”

The treaty is seen as a key element in maintaining stability in Europe. It establishes limitations on countries’ deployment of tanks, armored combat vehicles, artillery, attack helicopters and combat aircraft.

“Smoke forces jet’s emergency Chicago landing”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “CHICAGO — A Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Seattle made an emergency landing in Chicago late Friday after the pilot reported smoke in the plane’s cabin, an airline spokesman said.

Delta flight 597 was carrying 181 passengers and crew members when it landed at O’Hare International Airport about 10 p.m., Delta spokesman Andy McDill said.

“As a precaution, we landed in Chicago without incident,” he said.”
