Political goals are not achieved by fillbustering the other guy's bill. Please spare me the usual overly emotion bluster this week. I have no more patients for the childish posturing and macho boy 'Net warrior sloganeering that is used in place of reason on this issue. Everyone knows FULL well building the 700 miles of fence is NOT going to solve the problem that got you Antis all riled up in the 1st place. So please, try addressing the point ONE time instead of merely posting your usual emotional knee jerk responses. It getting really old the way you simply ignore any facts that do not simply validate your emotional dogma on this issue.

To start with. You been in the Govt. It is utterly absurd to expect the US Govt to build you a billion worth of fence in 6 months. NOTHING the Govt does is every done without about a zillion meetings and “studies”. It took over 60 days for the US Govt to FINALLY get some troops deployed to Afghanistan in the fall of 2001! And that was war!

The US Fed Govt is just incredibly cumbersome when ever it trys to do anything. That is just painful reality. Going into hysteric and screaming about mythical foes out to sabatouge the fence is pure demagogary. The Fence bill JUST got signed into law 8 months ago!!!! So calm down. This political demagoguery on the Fence is just pure self serving political drivel as anyone who bothers to actually think, instead of just emote, on this issue knows

Now HERE is my point. RESPOND to this one time instead of merely reposing your pre programed responses.

Right now we are back to maintaining the status quo on the border. That is SUPPOSE to be the reason we “have to do something about the border” because the status quo is “Destroying the country”

Here is how this issue developed.

Some on the Right screamed for years “We got to do something about the border, Illegals are destroying the country”.

So DC been trying to do somethings. It hasn’t been 100% acceptable to either side but it tired. So far nothing has got done. So that means, the status quo is still in place. The same status quo which is suppose to be the reason DC needs to do something right this very second about Illegals.

Last week you fillbustered a bad bill, you did NOTHING to fix the problems you all have been raging about for years. Merely preventing the other guy from winning is NOT the same thing as winning the war.

LOL. Kind of like calling the kettle black You are the one who introduces "emotional knee jerk responses" and name-calling, like Antis, know-nothings, macho boys, etc. You can't engage in rational discourse with that kind of tone, which seem to be sprinkled throughout your comments. Let's deal with facts. I have read both versions of the Senate bill line by line and done my own analysis. I know what is in it and the likely impact it will have on this country were it to be enacted.

I have never said that building a 700 mile fence is going to solve all of our problems, but it is a start and a visible commitment to actually address the problem after 9/11. I have always included in my responses to you the need to have control over visa overstays, much of which is already in the 1996 US Visit Program legislation. We have the Secure Fence Act of 2006 approved by all of the major candidates from both parties who serve in the Senate. Let's build what the legislation says we should build.

Let's see if the fence with only 13 miles completed will acutally be built. That is a true test of the administration's commitment. It is also a matter of national security. I expect the USG to exercise some sense of urgency in getting it built and not throw it back to the Senate, as Chertoff suggested when asked if the Administration was still going to follow through on asking for the $4.4 billion it was attaching to the failed comprehensive immigration reform bill. The Secure Fence Act has specific deadlines on when certain portions of the fence will be completed. We are already behind schedule.

Read the text of the bill. the Secretary shall ensure that an interlocking surveillance camera system is installed along such area by May 30, 2007, and that fence construction is completed by May 30, 2008.

Last week you fillbustered a bad bill, you did NOTHING to fix the problems you all have been raging about for years. Merely preventing the other guy from winning is NOT the same thing as winning the war.

We should enforce the laws on the books. I have repeatedly sent you a plan on how we should approach this issue. We need to shut off the supply of illegals first and then get some good data on the scope and nature of the problem. You can't make good public policy without it. And in the meantime, we should enforce the laws of this country. The President of the United States has not fulfilled his responsibilities under the Constitution. The buck stops there.

Not sure why you waste your breath MNJ? FR has become the rightwing version of DU. Nobody wants to discuss the issues they only want to beat their chests and show how conservative they are.

I am glad the bill went down since it was a bad bill that was going to hurt business. That said there were good points in the bill like funding the fence and documenting illegals.

Those could have been starting points however Crock Radio wanted to shout Shamnisty and bash the President so every point was torn apart and any Republican that supported it was destroyed as well.

This is a very troubling developement for Free Speech. Rather than discussing pros and cons of issues we only have emotion filled catch phrases to throw out the baby w/the bathwater.

We will never have a bill since every bill will be called Shamnesty and what politician can withstand the heat. Immigration has become another Third Rail of politics. You are exactly right that this is no way to discuss such an important issue.

Immigration will be addressed seriously right after SSI is solved.

Pray for W and Our Troops
