Yankee Scott Proctor Gets Fired Up: Literally
AOL Sports ^ | 06/30/07

Posted on 06/30/2007 7:39:48 PM PDT by misterrob

If you're a die hard Yankee fan, stop reading now. Back away from the computer and go pop in a DVD of Billy Martin's greatest ejections or count those 26 rings. Today's pinstripe performance is not one for the Yankee Pride scrapbook.

It wasn't bad enough that the Yankee team that includes seven all-stars could muster just a single hit against Chad Gaudin and Rich Harden.

It wasn't bad enough that Kei Igawa and Scott Proctor got knocked around like double-wides in a tornado.

It wasn't bad enough that Jeter, A-Rod and Abreu were a combined 0-11 with five strikeouts.

No sir, the Yankees turned up the heat a notch when the game ended. Scott Proctor threw all of his equipment out of the dugout and onto the field. He then proceeded to light it on fire for a little post-game bonfire! Somewhere, there has got to be video of this. Please, I'm begging.

I didn’t get to watch the game thanks to Fox’s idiotic blackout rules, but I know the Yankees got hammered today. According to a postgame commentary on Yankees.com, the incident did happen.

If that’s what it takes to get the team going, then so be it. I like Proctor because he reminds me of me.

I’m not too surprised (a bit baffled, yeah); given that baseball people is given to superstition he probably thought there was some quite bad juju on the equipment and decided to play on the safe side.

I am Yankee fan and saw the game as I watch ALL their games. I hope George does not do anything until after the season. Somehow Cashman has put together a very uncompetitive team. In important postions they are very weak. In centerfield they have neither offense or effective defense. First base is an offensive position, and they are getting no offense. And at DH they are getting little hitting or power. One corner outfielder is supposedly a third place hitter who does not hit for power or drive in runs and the other corner outfielder is not driving in runs. They have put together a great starting rotation if we they were playing in the last millenium. And the bullpen cannot get to Riveria if and when given a lead. They need a new general manager and manager but it would do the organization little long term good to do it now. If George lets things be, then when he fires Cashman and does not resign Torre, there will be little doubt that it was the right thing to do.
