53 Nays sends the signal that the Bill itself would have been defeated. HOoraH!!!

Not really - the bill would have easily passed. Several senators changed their vote once defeat of the motion was assured.

Possibly, but that 53 number is on the record and will be cited whenever this ‘Motion to Proceed” vote is referenced.

I don’t use the word “cloture” because it has become removed from the lexicon of political speech. Even the note at the bottom of the cspan2 screen does not use the word.

cspan just says “immigration bill blocked on procedural vote in senate; supporters lack votes to shut off debate.”

Too many people finally learned what ‘cloture’ actually meant, so the shell game of political speech has expunged it.

We need to know which Senators voted NO after 41 other no votes were cast!!!
