Romance languages and literatures. French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Or at least it used to be language and literature, but now it’s probably the same as English: gender, postcolonial theory, and the latest swish theories.

They used to do stuff like Petrarch, Dante, Racine, Cervantes, and Lope de Vega. Now they probably do postcolonial literature and revolution.
These 88 are typical of most America campuses and are the ones teaching our children. We have collectively allowed our Institutions of “higher learning” to be hijacked by radical anti-white racialist, socialist and anti-American Marxist. Yet we continue to insist on sending our children there.
Swish theories!! I was afraid of that. !Sigh!
Hardly surprising. What do the Feminist Women look like?
Did you ever see the caveman Geico commercial? Look like them!
Just a guess. The course should probably be named "Lesbian Romance Studies."
No idea which one apologized. Maybe someone else knows.
Do you have any idea how many Romance novels are pubished every year? (Over 2,200 in 2004)
It's a growth market.
When I was in college, I assumed that the seeming stupidity of my professors must have been due to my own inability to grasp their brilliance. In all the time since, I have come to realize more and more that most of them are absolute morons who, if they had to work someplace other than the cloistered environment of higher education, couldn’t make 1/4 of the income they get as professors (except maybe as “journalists” working for rags like the NYT).
I have yet to hear a single logical reason for the continued existence of tenure.
I agree with you! These psuedo intellectuals can do or say whatever they want and can’t be fired. Totally disgusting!
The “Race Subcommittee”. Somehow that sounds to me like their reason for existence is to stir up racial trouble.
Yes, it is amazing that anyone with any critical thinking skill could have been drawn in. Worse, that they have been unwilling / unable to withdraw a severely flawed logical process. They must have drank the Koolaid.
Aren’t they all guilty of hate speech and prejudice? Doesn’t Duke have some type of liberal PC code that forbids such prejudicial speech? Let them be hoisted on their own petard and tried under their own liberal standards.
He probably hasn't. He just understands the politics of reparations.
I’m tired of my current alias, Muffy Lopez. I’ve been looking for a new one, and Thavolia Glymph speaks to me somehow.
IMHO, the real question is when do folks stop paying the tuition. A university’s utility to society is that it teaches how to find a kernal of truth, to be able to intellectually separate out the wheat from the chaff, is the basis by which all of us ultimately make a living being useful to one another. Duke University has very publically shown their primary goal is pulling the wool over others eyes...and trying to force an illusion upon the world.
bump for later
You be funny, Xena. Real funny...
Muffy Lopez? Snork!
My hand to God, I am not lying. I’ve used “Muffy Lopez” for more than a decade.
When my sister was away at college, one day she found a fat blond cocker spaniel in her yard. She took the dog to area vets, one of whom recognized her and told my sister her name was Muffy and she belonged to a family named Lopez.
My sister took Muffy back to them, but found Muffy in her front yard a few days later. She concluded that the Lopez family didn’t deserve to own a dog if they weren’t gonna take care of her, so instead of giving Muffy back, she and Muffy went on the lam and ended up crashing at our parents’ house.
My dad and I thought “Muffy Lopez” was the single best name EVER. I’ve used it as a fake name ever since. (Bacon Man can attest - heck, he might even have met the actual Muffy.)
Oh...I trust you on the anecdote.
