If I say I’m from the West, is that a slap to southwesterners? I don’t believe the President was trying to do anything but clarify. If someone thinks that someone is from Louisiana rather than Mississippi, would the Missisiippian take umbrage? It is the same analogy as the New Zealanders versus the Aussies. Don’t get them confused. They are proud of who they are.

West Texas, where Bush spent his childhood and his time in the oil field, is very West. Midland is about 400 miles west of anywhere in East Texas, which is as southern as Louisiana or Arkansas. It is halfway between El Paso and Fort Worth, the town that adverti ses itself as the place “where the West begins. However, I never have figured out where he gets his accent. He certainly doesn’t sound much like Rick Perry, who is a long-long West Texan.

You really don’t undestand this at all do you?

not trying to fight.....

but Bush has a history of denying Texas’s place in the old South and the War Between the States.

He’s a yankee ...of course he wishes to deny it.

I have not looked but I own some flattering books on his family. I bet I can find where they profitted either from slavery or reconstruction or likely...both.

the fact that Bush denies Texas is part of the South is telling to.....we Southerners
