West Texas, where Bush spent his childhood and his time in the oil field, is very West. Midland is about 400 miles west of anywhere in East Texas, which is as southern as Louisiana or Arkansas. It is halfway between El Paso and Fort Worth, the town that adverti ses itself as the place “where the West begins. However, I never have figured out where he gets his accent. He certainly doesn’t sound much like Rick Perry, who is a long-long West Texan.
You made my point that the President was only clarifying where he comes from. Regarding his accent...who cares? I sound different from my family. Not all Texans sound alike.
