Below is the list of Republicans that voted for the June 26, 2007, cloture motion that prevented debate and allows for the Senate to proceed to full consideration of the disastrous amnesty bill.

Tell them how you feel, by calling the Congressional Switchboard – (202) 224-3121

I just called Burr’s office and asked the woman who answered what the President promised him to get him to change his vote. I told her I was not surprised because he isn’t up for reelection and he is figuring we’ll forget before his reckoning comes due. I told her to tell him he was WRONG on the vote and WRONG on his assessmant of the voter’s memory.

I called the NC office you can’t get through to DC.

It went from 7 Republican votes on the previous amnesty bill for cloture to 24 Republican votes this time. Repubsive.

THis vote wasn't to allow a vote like the one you note. The cloture to end debate and allow an up or down vote is later - probably Thursday - and will require 60 votes. I THINK... it's all being mixed up....

It is THIS vote Thursday that we must have any combination of 41 NO votes and no shows.

THe votes in play are the votes that will change depending on amendments being passed or not. I think it'll be hard to achieve cloture. Amendments have folks on both sides - there are senators who will vote NO on cloture unless an amendment is passed ... and there will be senators who will vote NO on cloture if an amendment is passed.

THey got a hard time ahead. Today's vote really isn't a big deal - if I understand it... alhough it sure woulda been nice to kill it today, Harry set it up to make it seem like today was a big victory - it isn't.

You might want to trade your computer in for a “long knife” - Im afraid it has gone far beyond that by now and emails wont help change the minds of these traitors.

Someone ought to call the RNC and let them know that they might as well close their offices and save the money. They sure won’t be getting much from the loyalists that have stuck with them, only to get it stuck to us.

>>If the amendment fails, I was told, Sen. Bond would vote against the bill.

If that was his reasoning, then Bond is stupid. And Bond is not stupid.<<

I think Bush and others are passing out goodies, and senators can’t get the goodies if they can’t vote on the bill. Watch out for pork sneaking in.

Senators are not listening to the people, so far. We can hope that they will either realize that their future is in danger, or they will have an epiphany in which some of virtue will magically appear.

I hope you are right. However, this bill does show us who supports amnesty as a general principle, since they could have killed the bill here and then tried to introduce their amendments as stand alone legislation.

No, you are comparing the vote to END DEBATE on S.1348 to the vote to BEGIN DEBATE on S.1639.

The cloture vote to BEGIN DEBATE on S.1348 passed 69-23, while the vote to BEGIN DEBATE on S.1639 passed by a smaller margin, 64-35.

Even though the first cloture vote on S. 1348 passed, all other cloture votes on it failed.

From the LONG thread - another poster...

Following consideration of all of the amendments offered another cloture vote will be taken to end debate. If that cloture vote passes, it will lead to final passage of the bill which only requires 51 votes to pass.

Anyway you're right - the bill coulda been killed today. But there are some senators who, if the right combination of amendments pass, will vote yes on cloture and yes on the bill.

But that is problematic as I mentioned each amendment's pass/fail will affect nearly equal numbers of senators. So it's really not such a big vote today IMO.... just the leadership trying to make it look like a big victory.

If the amendment fails, I was told, Sen. Bond would vote against the bill.

Did he say he would vote against cloture? Or is he trying to fool people by voting for the second cloture vote and they voting against the bill?

I wasn’t savvy enough at that time to ask the specific question about how he would vote for cloture on Thursday. But I am now, and will tomorrow or (less likely) late today.

I like to make sure the Senator’s staff can look forward to the phones ringing from the minute they walk into the office, and am making sure I am one of the early callers.

It’s not over, keep calling. And while we’re all at it, I would urge everyone to give the folks over at the Republican National Committee a piece of your mind - tell them you hope they have enough CEOs to donate the maximum for the upcoming election cycle, because they’re not getting a red cent from their traditional donors. Hit them where it hurts - the pocket book.

re: Just got off the phone with Sen. Bond’s local office, which told me the reason for his vote was because he was given the opportunity to introduce an amendment that would remove the Z-visa provison from the bill.)))

Really? That's the whole guts of the bill.

This bill is primarily amnesty for employers of illegals. Right now, several states are beginning to write their own anti-illegal legislation and the Chambers of Commerce are putting the guns to GOP Senators' heads.

The Z Visa would let these employers off the hook--it's the Z Visa which is the very thing we need to defeat--
