Transcript: Sens. Lott, Feinstein on 'FOX News Sunday' (Fairness Doctrine)
Fox News ^ | 6/24/07 | Fox News

WALLACE: Let me bring in Senator Feinstein . . .

Do you have a problem with talk radio, and would you consider reviving the fairness doctrine, which would require broadcasters to put on opposing points of view?

FEINSTEIN: Well, in my view, talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It's explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.

This is a very complicated bill. It's seven titles. Most people don't know what's in this bill. Therefore, to just have one or two things dramatized and taken out of context, such as the word amnesty — we have a silent amnesty right now, but nobody goes into that. Nobody goes into the flaws of our broken system.

This bill fixes those flaws. Do I think there should be an opportunity on talk radio to present that point of view? Yes, I do, particularly about the critical issues of the day.

WALLACE: So would you revive the fairness doctrine?

FEINSTEIN: Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way.

WALLACE: But the argument would be it's the marketplace, and if liberals want to put on their own talk radio, they can put it on. At this point, they don't seem to be able to find much of a market.

FEINSTEIN: Well, apparently, there have been problems. It is growing. But I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people.

Wow, Senator Feinstein. The media reporting was more "serious" and "correct" before talk radio? Are you kidding?

I could have sworn that we were guaranteed "Freedom" of Speech in America.

Not "Fairness" of speech.

I emailed Chris Wallace to ask why he didn’t ask Ms. Feinstein to comment on the control liberals have on the main stream media, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, NY Times, LA Times, St. Pete Times...etc? Cause “liberals” and the left wing wants to hear ONLY one voice.....theirs!
Wallace should have challenged her.

Of course it was more correct when the fairness doctrine was law. Liberals got their point of view out and no one else did. That’s fair! /sarc/

Most people don't know what's in this bill.

I'll bet she doesn't. I know more than I want to know..

... we have a silent amnesty right now, but nobody goes into that. Nobody goes into the flaws of our broken system

She needs to listen to talk radio and get up-to-speed. There is plenty being said about our existing broken system. DEPORT THEM!

FEINSTEIN: Well, in my view, talk radio tends to be one-sided. It also tends to be dwelling in hyperbole. It's explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.
The government does not exist to replace individual thought, drive, emotion and reflection.

We all do. You're too damn disconnected with reality and absorbed with your own self-interest to see it.

This bill fixes those flaws. Do I think there should be an opportunity on talk radio to present that point of view? Yes, I do, particularly about the critical issues of the day.
How about make a station people will actually listen to more than 5 minutes rather than changing the channel or turning it off completely. Remember Air America? If people wanted to listen to your commie BS the market would fix itself, wouldn't it.

FEINSTEIN: Well, I'm looking at it, as a matter of fact, Chris, because I think there ought to be an opportunity to present the other side. And unfortunately, talk radio is overwhelmingly one way.
See previous comments. It's that way because the market has made it that way, not because of some VRWC you hopeless twit.

FEINSTEIN: Well, apparently, there have been problems. It is growing. But I do believe in fairness. I remember when there was a fairness doctrine, and I think there was much more serious correct reporting to people.
WRONG. Ass-backwards wrong, and here's why. Reporting was much more serious and correct because no one had any indication that what we were reading and seeing was a load of BS. Talk radio and the new media opened that door and cracked that window and people started becoming aware of your endless deceit, your endless power grabs, your endless self interest.

I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire.

It's explosive. It pushes people to, I think, extreme views without a lot of information.

I watched her say this on the show. This is the typical socialist response. People who are not socialists are mind numbed robots too stupid to think for themselves. The premise being talk radio drives the public thinking. She knows full well radio, like other industries, is demand driven. Conservative talk radio has grown because the base consisting of millions of Conservatives already existed.

So the want to “LEGISLATE” the point of “FAIRNESS” in the media now???

So WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO GUARANTEE AND ENFORCE FAIRNESS WITH ....ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, PBS, NY Times, LA Times, St. Pete Times...etc?

Speech is free AND fair so long as they agree with what you’re saying.

Oh goody. Maybe we do need state-run media after all.

If ever there was any doubt that our Washington political class is bought and paid for by the wage depression lobby, this totally removes it.

She has it soooooo wrong. Information is what drives talk radio. The kind of information you can't get from 30 second sound bites from the MSM.

And just try posting on FR without a source. Geeeze.

Watch out folks. First, they’re going to try to take over talk radio. Next, it’s the internet.

Free speech for me, but not for thee. It’s the commie mantra.

He should have asked this left-wing broad about her activities while a member of the Senate Armed Services committee....you know, funneling defense contracts to companies controlled by her husband. If she actually did this, she should be an inmate in a federal prison and should be bending over and spreading them for the prison guards.
