Romney: Attacks On Mormon Religion Troubling
CBS 4 MIAMI ^ | 23 JUNE 2007 | AP

Posted on 06/23/2007 1:28:02 PM PDT by Extremely Extreme Extremist

(AP) SALT LAKE CITY -- Mitt Romney said Saturday that criticism of his Mormon religion by rival GOP presidential campaigns is happening too frequently.

“Clearly, any derogatory comments about anyone’s faith—those comments are troubling. The fact they keep on coming up is even more troubling,” Romney said during a fundraising trip in the home state of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Mormon church is one of the fastest-growing religions and claims about 12.5 million members worldwide. But many evangelical Christians in crucial primary states such as Iowa and South Carolina consider the faith a cult.

Romney’s remarks follow an apology from GOP rival John McCain’s campaign for comments about the Mormon church allegedly made this year by a volunteer.

Also recently, Republican presidential hopeful, Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, issued a similar apology for a campaign worker’s e-mail to Iowa Republican leaders that was an apparent attempt to draw unfavorable scrutiny of Romney’s religion. Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani apologized after the New York Sun noted that a campaign aide had forwarded to a blogger a story about unofficial Mormon lore. Legend has it that a Mormon would save the Constitution, the story said. The campaign aide passed the story along with a note: “Thought you’d find this interesting.”

Romney said in a large presidential race there always will be some volunteers or workers who cannot be controlled. But he said the difference between derogatory comments that originated from the McCain campaign and others is that the Arizona senator has not personally apologized to him.

“In the case of Senator Brownback and Mayor Giuliani ... they called immediately. They each spoke with me personally. I don’t have any issue with that at all,” Romney said.

He said McCain “can do whatever he feels is the right thing. There’s no need for me to suggest how people respond to things that go on in the campaign.”

Tucker Bounds, a McCain campaign spokesman, said the McCain campaign has already apologized.

“It’s a very sincere apology. There is absolutely no place for those type of comments in our campaign,” he said.

Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, said he had not spoken with McCain since the last presidential debate, on June 5.

Romney used a fundraiser hosted by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller to criticize the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. It banned unregulated, unlimited contributions from corporations, unions and wealthy individuals to national political parties and federal candidates.

“The bill ought to be repealed,” he said. “It’s been the wrong course for American campaigns.”

Romney said he favors unlimited donations as long as they are immediately disclosed on the Internet.

Romney was attending fundraisers in Salt Lake City and in Logan on Saturday.

“The planet “Kolob” ????

Come on, does any Mormon really believe this nonsense? Really?”

They sure do, and President/Bishop Mitt Romney will eventually be asked that very question, along with a lot of other quite embarrassing ones.

The question I’m waiting for is “Are American Indians really Jewish Lamanites?”

“Right or wrong, if Romney is nominated, Utah and Mormonism becomes an issue, and given that the next President will likely have a minimum of at least 1 Supreme Court appointment, it’s too damned dangerous to risk this election to prove some point. We have to go with someone who is not going to have to deal with this for a year.”

Good analysis. But it won’t be one year we have to deal with this, but 9.5 years of candidacy and reelection. What a nightmare.

But religion doesn’t matter.

“The question of whether Joseph Smith was a false prophet depends entirely upon your own presuppositions.”

Not really. Facts are stubborn things and Joseph Smith lived only a 160 years ago. There are TONS of documents regarding everything from the Kirtland Bank ledger, to JS love letters to his coochie girls, to the Book of Mormon, to the Nauvoo Expositor’s accounts of embezzlement that can be analyzed. If there had been this much data on OJ, he woulda swung.

“You mean like the fact that the word “Trinity” is nowhere found in the Bible.”

Big Deal. The truth of God’s eternal nature - that there is ONE God and that God the Father is God, Jesus Christ, Son of God is God, and that the Holy Spirit is God is Biblical. The word “Trinity” is a description of that truth.

I have yet to meet the first Christian who puts their faith in a descriptive term. All believers put their faith in the God of Revelation, as described in The Bible - Who all Christian faiths know is One God in Three Persons.

I believe a better descriptive term would be Tri-unity...

“Maybe you posted something about this that I missed. What is this about the whitehorse prophecy?”

Start here for an overview, but you can Google a ton more.

http://www.parowanprophet.com/white_horse_vision.htm

When you get done with that, a fun read is the Nauvoo Expositor.

“Mormons are not alone as Non-Trinitarians.”

You are of course, right. Mormons are joined in their heresy by a whole collection of assorted cults and heresy believing religions...

Unfortunately, the fact that they Blaspheme God’s nature is only one (admittedly large) problem with their claim to be a Christian faith.

For instance...

Biblical Christianity is monotheistic - it teaches there is ONE God.

Mormonism is Polytheisitc - it teaches there are many gods.

best,
ampu

National Review magazine made the observation that Mormons rejected polygamy (for what they were most controversial) over a century ago. It went on to say that Romney was one of the very few contenders who’s had only ONE wife. By the way, is Rudy working on his fourth yet? Or would it be the fifth - it’s hard to keep track.

I just went to your link. Good grief!

Don’t know about you, but to a Mormon believing this tripe, they would see Mitt Romney in it.

The messianic eschatology of Achminijad (sp?)over in Iran hasn’t got a thing on this Mormon messianic whitehorse eschatology. Sounds vaguely similar. My opinion.

“Don’t know about you, but to a Mormon believing this tripe, they would see Mitt Romney in it.”

Even worse, does Bishop Mitt see himself in it??????

Either he is a Mormon truebeliever and believes this and a whole lot more (becoming a God), or he is a Mormon apostate using the Church to fund his campaign. Either rendition is (IMHO) is just too freaky for prime time.

I call the phenomena “getting your planet early” where Mormons in power think they have gotten on the God track early and this is their planet. I first ran across it in a business deal 15 years ago, but it has recurred a number of times. Harry Reid is I believe a prime example.

Now I will duck for cover and wait for the “Bigot” bombs to be hurled at me.

There is nothing wrong with comparing Joseph Smith and Mohammed. In fact Mr. Smith did it too.

A quote from Joseph Smith,
“I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Alcoran [Koran] or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us—‘Joseph Smith or the Sword!’ ”

From the Hebrew, the word “angel” translates into “messenger”, and not “children of God”.

“So you get your stuff from a weird source!
http://www.parowanprophet.com/";

I just threw up one link out of a thousand, I’m sure I can find another link as pure as the driven snow.

But of course you are trying to assail the facts by muddying where they were found. If you are denying the Whitehorse Prophecy, then that is prevarication on your part.

But if you believe in Brigham Young as Prophet, then surely you can find links that expound even more clearly on the Whitehorse Prophecy than I can.

The fact is, even if you give us the whitewashed version straight from the Mormon Temple, it is still a disturbing prophecy. So explain away this one link all you want, because we know your standard tactic is never to directly confront the facts themselves.

The Fact is the Whitehorse Prophecy, not the link. Defend the Whitehorse Prophecy, don’t try and divert things by quibbling over web addresses.
