I am NOT willing to help them fix their homelands- The U.S. has tried and tried to help fix Mexico over the years and as long as the elite are in power it will not work. The elite in Mexico could care less about the condition of their country or their citizens that live in poverty, they only care about how to get richer- and they are some of the wealthiest people in the world. Those that control Mexico only care about 1 thing- more money.
There is a perfect example of this near where I live. There is a highway in Mexico that goes within 3 or 4 miles of the U.S. border where it turns into a terrible 2 track dirt road. There is highway on the U.S. side. The county, state, and federal governement over the years has attempted several times to help Mexico pave that short piece of road. They have given them money, equipment, and manpower training. What happens every time is the project gets fired up and looks like progress- then the money and or equipment evaporates. That is the problem with "fixing" or "helping them fix" their country. Remember NAFTA was supposed to provide jobs and improve Mexico's economy and end illegals coming here. The only people that made money in Mexico as a result of NAFTA are- the elite.
The only way to fix Mexico at this point is to conquer and rebuild from the ground up. I don't see many supporting that. If there was no safety valve called Uncle Sam, there would have been a major revolution in Mexico years ago and possibly that would have worked, but we did not allow that to happen.
It does seem that even with all the billions and billions that we have given in aid not much has changed. I have been to Mexico several times and each time I have noticed a general improvement in people’s lives. But the majority of those who come here are from the hinterlands and points south...small farmers and others who cannot be absorbed into the economy who cannot sustain themselves in the cities.
