Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants

Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants Jun 23 01:49 PM US/Eastern President George W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States as he renewed his push for immigration reform, a centerpiece of his domestic agenda.

A revised reform package was reintroduced in the Senate this past week after its predecessor failed on June 7 to garner enough votes to cut off debate and move for final passage.

The collapse of the first proposal has prompted a personal intervention by the president, who went to Capitol Hill to plead for giving the bill a second chance.

But while he has succeeded in putting the proposal back on the Senate agenda, the legislation is facing strong opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, who argue that granting legal status to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants will only encourage more people to sneak across the poorly guarded border.

In his weekly radio address, Bush sought to address these concerns, revealing for the first time that under the revised proposal, people crossing a US border illegally will not only be deported, but never allowed to enter the United States again.

"Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa," the president stated.

He went on to assure Americans the new bill puts border enforcement first.

The measure contains 4.4 billion dollars to help the US Border Patrol hire more agents, build additional fencing, purchase infrared cameras and other technologies that help intercept illegal aliens.

"Only after these enforcement tools are in place will certain other parts of the bill go into effect," Bush said.

My immediate response was to laugh out loud.
I’m sure my neighbors heard it.

Had the borders been enforced then we would NOT be having this argument now.

That speaks for me. If the Executive doesn't respect the existing laws enough to enforce them then what good is it?

So right! We already have a ban on illegal immigration. It’s called the law! El problema is enforcement - or lack thereof. And without any real remedy for that, the law is a sham.

Do you think the government will arm the illegals to fight us or will they use muzzies for that? /(not sure whether to put a sarcasm tag here or not)

If you consider Bush a liberal, I agree with you. You can scream Liberal all day, but it is Bush that looks the most liberal in going to war without securing the US first. I voted for him twice and I stood behind the war “We are fighting over there so they won’t be over here”. What a LIE. I feel violated.

By the way the ACLU is against the immigration bill, go figure. I believe that God is bringing everything to light and only those that will not open their eyes will be left in the dark.

What ever is hidden will be brought to light, God is doing his part, are we doing ours.

That's a great idea, Mr. President.

But why haven't you already been practicing this policy?

Why wait 'til now? Why does it require a new law?

On this subject, you no longer have any credibility.

Yeah, and when does this “ban” start? Why wasn’t it started about 30 years ago? What a joke.

Technically, yes........but.......

This is the first time we're ever banned them permanently. LOL! I can't even say that without laughing. I honestly think the only ones who are fooled with this nonsense are the fools themselves!

bush boy has not credibility.

before 9.11 bush and el presidente vicente fox were to get together to establish amnesty in the u.s. for mexicans.

but 9.11 threw a monkey wrench into that.

"Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa," the president stated.

Yet the Senate wouldn't even pass the Coryn Amendment to make gang members, felons, sex offenders, terrorists and the lowest rung of the illegal aliens already here ineligible for Z-Visas? So how are we supposed to believe him?

The man first really acknowledged any problem at all on May 15, 2006--well over five years into his term of office and over 4 1/2 years after the attacks on New York and the Pentagon, when one would have thought his first response would have been to address our own borders, and access to the United States! Now, he is desperate, because his flawed approach is being consumed in a prairie fire of popular outrage.

I’ve watched this thing pretty closely and when this amendment was voted down, at that very moment, I knew everything I needed to know about the intent of the bill and the intent of the people backing it.

I want them ALL gone. No more @#$()*^&* career politicians!
