We were discussing Fred the other night, and our 19 yr old daughter was asking how he was going to get the younger folks interested. I told her about him getting profiles on Facebook and MySpace. She was impressed.

We were up late last night watching Die Hard with a Vengeance, and found out that Die Hard 2 was coming up right after. We stayed up to watch it, and when the first scene Fred was in came on, I told our son that he was looking at the next President of the United States, and he said "That's Fred Thompson"? He didn't recognize him with hair. ;o)

It’s not even Facebook or MySpace, it was things like YouTube (as in, Fred’s Michael Moore rebuttal) and Fred’s more-or-less daily blogging as well. Aside from being a really smart way of doing things (reaching out lightning-fast to a massive community), it shows how our politics and elections are really starting to utilize the internet in a way bigger than Howard Scream’s meet up sites or whatever the hell they were. It’s part of the reason why Fred has reached out to a large audience and is pulling close or ahead in the polls despite not being in the race yet.
