Wow I had no idea. I assume the majority are from the Pacific campaigns and naval and air personnel.
I first heard from retired newsman Frank Clynes back in 1999. Clynes was crusading to have the US gubmint retrieve the remains of Sgt Bill Genaust from the sealed cave on Iwo where it had been since February 1945 when he was KIA. Clynes also wanted Genaust awarded the Navy Cross he had been recommended for his actions on Saipan. Despite his tireless efforts, Clynes met with resistance and was unsuccessful in his quest. Apparently now, however, for whatever reason, his efforts are bearing fruit.

God bless this search team...Hope they find the cave and the Marine guys...Hope he gets the Navy Cross too—shining his light in a dark cave known to have enemy soldiers is a brave a thing as anything done on a battlefield..
