So, what did you use for gator bait???

The discussion reminds me of when we had a place on Kickapoo Creek at Lake Livingston. Late 70's - early 80's there was an abundance of gators in and around the creek -- some REALLY big ones -- 15 footers; give or take a little. I KNOW this to be true. A fishin' buddy and I were quietly trolling around one of the coves around Kickapoo bass pluggin when one just slowly raised up about three feet from, and parallel, to the boat. He was roughly the length of the 17' boat we were in. My buddy and I looked at each other for a few seconds, then I reached over and popped the gator between the eyes with my rod tip. We both got pretty wet when he swung his tail and departed in a big hurry. Wet was better than et!

When gator season opened down around the coast, all of the resident gators migrated south(in the back of pickup trucks I suspect). After a couple of years, there were no gators to be found around Kickapoo Creek.

Effective September 1, 2005, an alligator hunter’s license is not required to hunt alligators in Texas. Under the terms of House Bill 2026, enacted by the Texas Legislature and signed by the governor, the alligator hunter’s license is abolished and hunters may take alligators under any hunting license except the non-resident spring turkey license or non-resident banded bird hunting license.

In Angelina, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Galveston, Hardin, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Refugio, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler and Victoria counties (referred to as ‘core’ counties), the open season is from September 10 through September 30. This season also applies on any property, regardless of county, for which the department has issued hide tags directly to the landowner (referred to in this publication as special properties).

In all other counties (‘non-core’), the open season is from April 1 through June 30.

I wasn't sure I was bringing my 7.62x51 and/or my shotgun. NOw I think I'll bring the shotgun, with slugs and buckshot loads. Trouble is, the shotgun has no sights... so I'd better bring the Battle Rifle too.

Be good if that SOCOM M1A shows up too, that old boy might have friends.. :)
