Hi Everyone! I know this is really early, but I thought this would give everyone a chance to make plans & start saving pennies for the trip.
The 2008 shoot will be held May 3rd, at Schwenkes Gun Range (4407 FM 1069) in Aransas Pass, Texas (35 miles SE of Corpus Christi. The cost will be $15.00 per person.
Schwenkes is a private gun range, that charges its members $50.00/year. I met with Mr. Schwenkes today, he said since I seem like a nice lady, he would allow us to use his range. He also said if I would give him the time we will be there, he would close the range to his members. He smiled as he said the following, This range is for members only, some may complain, but I own the darn thing and can make up the rules as I go along.. I am thinking 10:00 2:00. Let me know if you think it should be longer or shorter.
There are only two rules set in stone; 1) pick up your brass and deposit it in a tub at the end of the shooting area, and 2) when shooting at the rifle range aim at the mounds, there are cows in the area and he doesnt want them dead! The maximum target distance on the rifle range is 200 yards.
For our Memorial Shoot attendees that do not shoot, there are lots of tourists stuff for you to do so you want be bored at the range. The U.S.S. Lexington tour is awesome, Padre Island (Port Aransas) is always fun to cruise and Rockport is right around the corner.
Food & fun will follow at Deer Camp South after the shoot.
The trailer at DCS will sleep about 8ish people, if anyone wants to sleep there. If you are a camping type person, you can pitch a tent in the yard or if you have a camper, you can park it in the yard. For those that like luxury lodging, there are several hotels in Aransas Pass and the surrounding area (Rockport, Port Aransas and Ingleside) and Corpus Christi is 35 miles away. To get to Port Aransas you will have to ride the ferry ~ a whopping 5 minute trip (the wait in line may be a bit longer). MAJOR BIT OF ADVICE - - Choose a major hotel/motel chain when you pick your lodging!
The closer it gets to the date of the shoot, the more I will go into details.
Thanks for thinking of me. It would be kind of fun to
shoot something!
Can’t make it, but can BUMP-TO-THE-TOP a fine gathering for Texas Cowboy!
From around the time Texas and FR lost TC:
Theres no way Hap and I can make it due to the distance involved. Two of our cats now require medication twice a day (ones diabetic and the other has hyperthyroidism). One we could board at the vet but not the other. He’s completely intolerant of anyone but us. The last time we had to leave him at the vet, he didn’t eat, drink or take his meds for the whole time he was there (three days) so it simply isn’t doable.
Count me in.
You need me to bring anything (i.e. drinks, chips, cookies, etc.)
Hey all! Rocky and I are trying to go but we have to get a hotel b/c we felt sorry for someone who is renting our place in near Port A.
Where is everyone staying? Is there any way to find out what’s nearest to the range? We don’t have a gun anymore. But, we’d happily bring ammo. And food. Let me know!!!
[please don’t get on me about the CHL. I had some things get in the way...I know, excuses, excuses...]
You'll do it when you are ready!
I'm getting my MN CCW soon...class is April 27th. Went practicing with my new Glock yesterday...2nd time shooting it. I LOVE IT!!
Deep down, I know that’s what I need to learn. I don’t honestly know what I’m waiting for. I still haven’t got my bills in for the lumpectomy, though.
I still haven’t got my exercise class either; I’m kind of watching the coinage these days. A little, anyway. Where are you staying? Bringing the kids?
Bump for a place marker just in case I get to try to go.
We're not able to make it this year. :(
I was unemployed for a little more than a month. Sure wipes out the savings when that happens. The new glock is a birthday present, or I wouldn't have that either.
Hoping we will be able to make it next year.
[pouting] Oh. I’m sorry to hear that. I do understand. We’ve had lots of changes where I work and that can mean anything goes.
The folks I have pinged are staying at the Days Inn in Aransas Pass. Technically, everything is close in that town! ;-)
We are planning on meeting up for dinner Friday night.
Regarding the food ~ Allegra, pax_et_bonum and I will pick everything up, divide the dollar amount by the number of people there and then pretend we are a collection agency.
See post #472 regarding bringing anything.
I pouted for a bit too...but have to keep priorities straight. :(
I’ll miss you all, and hope you have a wonderful time! This means you have another year to accomplish your “mission” I gave you a few months ago. ;~)
I am glad you have a plan for the food. I will be glad to pay my share. If there are any little extras that y’all will need, just let NYT, Mylife or I know and we can pick them up on the way to the gun range.....or to wherever the meal will be fixed.
Really getting excited now that it’s less than a month away!
I hope you are able to make it.
Here is what is on the mental menu for now:
Boiled Shrimp
Fried Shrimp
Crawfish
Fried Fish
Hush Puppies
Cole Slaw
Potato Salad
Salsa from New Mexico
2 Yummy Dips
Chips
Veggie Tray
Soda’s & Water
I like the sound of all that seafood. Maybe NYT will want to throw in a "couple" of steaks, but not even sure about that.
There is only a very small BBQ pit at DCS, they would have to be very tiny steaks.
The Menu looks great!
