Toronto to American Homosexuals: "We're as Gay as it Gets"

TORONTO, Ontario, June 18, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Toronto's tourism board has launched a new campaign to attract big-spending homosexual American tourists. The catch-phrase of the newest effort to paint Toronto as the place to go for homosexuals is: "Toronto: As gay as it gets."

According to Tourism Toronto, which has been working with Gay Marketing Advisory Group to develop the new initiative, the intention is to show that Toronto is more than simply accepting of, or friendly towards homosexuals.

Homosexual activist Councillor Kyle Rae, who is playing a central role to the new strategy, said, "The tag line 'Toronto: As gay as it gets' comes out of people talking about their cities as being gay-friendly. Toronto's not gay-friendly -- it's gay," Rae said.

"This is where the fight for the equality of rights started."

"There's an awful lot of research to back up that gay and lesbian travellers are lucrative to any destination that has the benefit of receiving visitation - staying longer, travelling often, spending more," said Tourism Toronto president and CEO David Whitaker, according to the Globe and Mail.

The billboard and print ad campaign will target some of the United States' most liberal cities, including San Francisco, Los Angles, New York and Chicago.

Toronto Tourism already has an entire section of its website dedicated to homosexual tourism, highlighting some of the homosexual friendly attractions, including Toronto Islands' Hanlon Point's "clothing-optional" beach.

The announcement of the new advertising effort comes as thousands of homosexual men and women and pro-homosexual activists converge on Toronto for the annual Gay Pride week. In the past Toronto's massive parade has been condemned by pro-family advocates for its widespread violation of public decency laws, with numerous instances of full, public nudity and other lewd acts.

You could spend weeks enjoying the sights and sounds of a new city and a different culture without ever coming into contact with anything which would change your life or your world view.

This coming from someone who posted the following on an anti-FReeper site:
When you feel conflicted about which site to visit, just remember where many of your favorite posters now post.

Meltdown at FR

When I went to school in Toronto (I live about half an hour outside), it was one street up from the absolute centre of gay in Toronto. I did not always feel safe walking around. Also, many of the students their were apparently influenced by their surroundings, which was sad in a Catholic school, although nothing was ever said by the teachers.

Toronto is not a great city, and this is just making it worse.

“Toronto to American Homosexuals: “We’re as Gay as it Gets”

Let the mass immigration begin. Illegals to the south, gays to the north (here I am stuck in the middle with you) and we can have the beautiful city of San Fransisco back.

After it is thoroughly disinfected of course.

The problem is, that in Canada as here, the cumulative effect of all of the liberal/leftist/counter-cultural/amoral "culture" -- and the whole bit, not just the homosexuality -- could lead people astray, or enable people already tending that way.

Nope, I ain't goin' nowhere where there might be people different than me, I don't wanna be changed by their proximity, or smell, or evil eye, noway, nohow.

I don't think that is what wagglebee was saying. I took it as something along the lines of 'if that is the type of people they want to attract, then I will choose to avoid them and spend my money elsewhere.' That is why I would never visit Toronto, not because I was afraid of turning gay. I avoid San Francessepool for that very reason, and it is in America. If I was going to visit Canada, I would definitely pick a straight friendly city. (if there are any left)

It IS the perfect slogan and here's people's exhibit A in support of the case.

Toronto's heteronormative taxpayers had to earmark over 160,000 dollars to the gay community to cast this perverse 9 foot gay bronze statue which dominates Church and Alexander St. The figure is Alexander Wood (no joke) a guy who in the context of a local sexual assault investigation, decided to take matters into his own hands and inspect the local men's johnsons with magnifier under the pretext of looking for defensive scratches by the victim. He took his CSI skills a bit too zealously and was naturally driven out of town and back to Scotland. Today he regarded is one of the gay communities martyrs, like St. Peter is to Catholics.
