The Most SHAMELESS Vanity Ever!
me | 6/15/07 | dixiechick2000

Posted on 06/17/2007 12:20:54 AM PDT by dixiechick2000

Today, my daughter became a Doctor.

She received an award for the highest GPA in her class.

However, because she didn't go to Guatemala, or take care of Natives...

...the professor who announced the award said...

..."Grades don't mean that much."

I want you all to know that my daughter, during the time when she drove from Portland, to Corvallis, OR, every day to attend an eight o'clock class, was very concerned about her children's welfare.

During that time, she would cut class to help with field trips, to attend parent/teacher conferences, etc.

She busted her butt to be the best parent, and wife,...

AND...daughter that she could be.

The professor who announced her "award" will be hearing from me tomorrow.

..."Grades don't mean that much." Only in a fool senile professor's class like his... would be my reply.

Congratulations!

I’m glad I won’t be that guy tomorrow. He’s probably wondering why his ears are starting to burn...

What a beautiful post. Thank you so much for taking the time to compose it.

"Let us further hope that the inference was in your hearing"

I don't believe it was. Everyone around us noticed it, and my daughter mentioned it later. It hurt her that he was so dismissive of her accomplishment.

She never strived to be tops in her class. In fact, the honor came as a complete surprise to her. Rather, she worked as hard as she did so that she could learn everything possible. She, also, was concerned that something might happen and she would be needed. So, she worked doubly hard to insure that, should that happen, she wouldn't fall too far behind.

You must be a wonderful physician.

As I said upthread, I’ll let my daughter handle it should she so desire.

That doesn’t mean I don’t WANT to, though. ;o)

That doesn’t diminish her title at all. I dated a guy a long time ago who was in school for pharmacy. I saw all the work and studying he did. My hat is off to Dixiechicklet PharmD.

She did all that and kept up with a family too. I have two children of my own, am a stay home mom and work part time from home. I can barely keep up with the laundry.

Thank you.

My daughter had a lot of help. Her husband is a real gem, and encouraged her every step of the way. He also did all of the laundry. ;o)

The one thing that makes me most proud is the example she and her husband have set for the kids.

Thank you!

We all went out for dinner after the ceremony, and let her choose the restaurant. She chose McMenamin’s, and requested a large table close to the television.

The Beavers were playing in the College World Series, and she wasn’t going to miss one minute of it!

My daughter’s father-in-law just retired from “teaching gym.” One thing I learned from him is that y’all have to be a jack of all trades!

I respect everything he did for his kids, just as I respect you.

A question I always ask those who tell me they are going to some other country to help the needy.............

Are we out of needy people here ?

Glad yer little lady is a Doctor now !

..... Congrats on her accomplishment and her GPA and to you, for raising her, to pursue her goals of a profession and family !!!

"...the graduating class were all becoming doctors."

I totally agree with that. However, if they choose to give an award like this, no one should be dismissive of it.

Good for your wife! I bet you are very proud of her.

Thank you, AuntB!

“your daughter will have plenty of chances to care for Guatemalans and ‘natives’ in any town USA! And probably for free!”

She did that in one of her rotations. ;o)

Congats on your daughter's major accomplishment.

Maybe that professor doesn't give grades, just a go get em as he sends them out to perform medicine on the rest of us.
