The U.S. House of Representatives shot down a proposal Friday by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, that would have built an 854-mile, double layered security fences along the Mexican border.
Franks noted that only 13 miles of a Mexican border fence approved last year have been built and that the fencing is needed to improve border security.
"With over 4,000 people crossing our southern border illegally every day, our border remains one of our country's most critical national security vulnerabilities. In order to carry out an act of terrorism, a militant Islamist simply needs a porous border and a dangerous weapon," said Franks in a statement.
Franks represents Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Kingman.
The fence plan failed by 272 to 149 votes. Most Democrats (including Arizona congressional members Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords , Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva) voted against the border fence plan.
Most Republicans (including Franks and fellow Arizona Reps. Rick Renzi and John Shadegg) voted for the comprehensive fence plan.
Mesa GOP Congressman Jeff Flake crossed party lines and vote against the border fence bill.
The House did approve an overall homeland and border security appropriations bill Friday. Mitchell said he backed that bill because it allocates federal money to hire more Border Patrol Agents and resources to deport violent illegal immigrant criminals.
"Deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes is absolutely imperative to keeping our communities safe," Mitchell said in a statement. Mitchell represents Tempe and Scottsdale.
The state's four Democratic representatives and Renzi voted for the final bill. Flake, Franks and Shadegg opposed.
The votes could be a precursor to a big political fight over immigration reforms, a guest worker program and how to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
I know. The latest, most obnoxious one is that sorry excuse for a man, the sissified, Lindsey Graham. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else. His term began in 2002. It will end in 2008, or hopefully, before!
We've become a serfdom.
Yeah, they're not going to be thinking that when the SHTF. They just need a little dose of reality!
Let the revolution begin.
I think it's just begun!
Sure. We should trust them. Right.
Liar, Cheats and thieves with no ethics, scruples or morals. That's our taxpayer funded govt for ya.

Hey Mitchell.....DEPORT BEFORE THEY COMMIT AWFUL CRIMES, bub!!! THAT will keep us safe! IDIOTS!!
Instead of a march, how many people would it take to join hands and make a human fence for a day? JAT
Waiting on you. My senators are:
1. Jeff Sessions
2. Richard Shelby
Do you need me to help with yours?
..You know many/if not all... of those were confident of their protection....and unafraid to come 'out of the shadows' to march on the streets.
And they were right...
..no one tried to single out illegals, or round up illegals...
..very few business establishments reported/fired their illegals when they didn't show up for work that day.
Sadly, I believe if we march.......we will be arrested!.
...that's how disfranchised I feel.
A popular Spanish-language disc jockey began a cross-country trip Sunday to encourage Congress to overhaul the nation's immigration laws, planning to give 1 million supporting letters to lawmakers in Washington, D.C. Eduardo "Piolin" Sotelo, from the nationally syndicated show, "Piolin por la Manana," and several others traveling in his caravan left from a Mexican cultural landmark in downtown as several hundred fans and supporters cheered.
Who is Sotelo? He's southern California's number one morning disc jockey and a former illegal alien who used fraudulent identification to work, but successfully evaded deportation.
Here's his website.

The last time Sotelo was in the spotlight, his massive protests backfired--galvanizing immigration enforcement groups and quashing amnesty prospects last year.

I think your right. The sheeple are too busy with their recreation, sports events, and partying to give a rats ass about their freedom.
They are trying one today, in a few cities. Didn’t get much publicity. I wish they would plan a march giving everyone enough time to get to DC. We need a bigger voice.
I’d also consider a march to our borders, the closest one each of us can get to. And yes, carrying pitchforks and the like.
Is there a picture of that $5 ladder? Are you saying that Mexico is smarter than Isreal? Fences seem to work everywhere in the world except on the Mexican border. Why?
Not organized. Not helpful in any meaningful way. A Mob destroys. It has no brain to speak of and no agenda.
What it will do is allow those of us who have thought ahead the leeway to make some real changes and to possibly even win back our Republic and our Constitution.
You are blessed to have Sessions, and Shelby's been holding up pretty well too, hasn't he? Mine are Feinstein and Boxer. It's baaaad out here, but then again, Cali DID recall Gray Davis.
We need to put this idea out there and start talking. Let the word get out into the public arena. Start brainstorming and sharing ideas. See who we can count on...and who can organize. Start emailing our talkradio guys. They've been with us in the past and they're with us now. And after all...don't they run the country?
I will be gone all weekend but am considering putting a discussion thread up on the topic so we can start the brainstorming.
Many would say we would be tilting at windmills...but the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. What do you all think?
Leave the border open and just grant amnesty.
There, fixed.
No more illegals.
THAT'S the insanity that occupies Washington these days while the rest of us souls just stand at the wall and bang our heads.
I left San Jose in 1973.
We need many threads like that in/on every state. Please do.
