House rejects security fence at the border
The Business Journal ^ | Friday, June 15, 2007 | Not Identified

The U.S. House of Representatives shot down a proposal Friday by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, that would have built an 854-mile, double layered security fences along the Mexican border.

Franks noted that only 13 miles of a Mexican border fence approved last year have been built and that the fencing is needed to improve border security.

"With over 4,000 people crossing our southern border illegally every day, our border remains one of our country's most critical national security vulnerabilities. In order to carry out an act of terrorism, a militant Islamist simply needs a porous border and a dangerous weapon," said Franks in a statement.

Franks represents Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Kingman.

The fence plan failed by 272 to 149 votes. Most Democrats (including Arizona congressional members Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords , Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva) voted against the border fence plan.

Most Republicans (including Franks and fellow Arizona Reps. Rick Renzi and John Shadegg) voted for the comprehensive fence plan.

Mesa GOP Congressman Jeff Flake crossed party lines and vote against the border fence bill.

The House did approve an overall homeland and border security appropriations bill Friday. Mitchell said he backed that bill because it allocates federal money to hire more Border Patrol Agents and resources to deport violent illegal immigrant criminals.

"Deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes is absolutely imperative to keeping our communities safe," Mitchell said in a statement. Mitchell represents Tempe and Scottsdale.

The state's four Democratic representatives and Renzi voted for the final bill. Flake, Franks and Shadegg opposed.

The votes could be a precursor to a big political fight over immigration reforms, a guest worker program and how to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

If the illegals can put together hundreds of thousands in LA, surely we can muster more than that in D.C.

Or the 500,000 that marched on Dallas Texas.

"The problem is that some yahoos would show up with Confederate flags or Nazi flags and the whole damn media would ignore the issue and focus on them.

An organized march could police its own marchers. Nobody would be allowed to march with objectionable signs. I would not put it past the Left to plant people with outrageous signs just to discredit the entire protest. I have thought about doing the same thing to a few Code Pink organized protests. I have thought about dressing up in a Communist Russian uniform and doing a wild march down the street with a sign saying "Communists against the United States." Oh that would be fun!

Not even so much as a fig leaf.

I miss the good old days when 'our betters' at least pretended to care what we thought.

And if you don't have a fence, what the HELL is the point of deporting them??? They're just going to turn around and WALK RIGHT BACK IN the NEXT DAY!!!

Drop them DEEP within Mexico. I'd say their southern border.

That way the OTMs can more easily go home...

This should be a bi-partisan issue easily passed. So what happened here?

“Not even a study to find out why amnesty didn’t work. Why haven’t the worker penalties been applied to the lawbreakers?”

Because the sepcial interests dont want it to happen.
My eyes were opened by a story about how Chuck Hagel first became an open borders nut. He stopped enforcement of ICE/ INS in meatpacking plants in the late 1990s, going after the bureaucrats.

“Is or has the Justice Department been diligent in upholding our laws.”

NO.
“ What other departments have been neglectful in enforcing work place rules.”
Most of them. Deportations are impossible because in the Clinton era, the immigration lawyers took over and created hidden amnesties galore...
http://www.washtimes.com/commentary/20070615-091411-7674r.htm

Has this amnesty led to widespread forgery?”

YES.

“What government departments are negligence?”

Blame Ted Kennedy who wrote 1986 and other provision to actually PREVENT employers from properly checking and PREVENT the ability to check immigration status (it’s ‘discrimination’ ya know).

” Has this amnesty led to smuggling of humans and drugs?”

YES.

What government department is responsible for this travesty?”

ALL OF THEM.

I think the only real course of action that would FRIGHTEN most politicians is a PROMISED TAX REVOLT by "we the people".

The media is in full-gear mode to pass this sham-nesty, but THE OPPONENTS OF THE FENCE DONT OPPOSE IT BECAUSE IT DOESNT WORK, THEY OPPOSE IT BECAUSE IT DOES.

So they can get over with a ladder? That’s why you need a double-layer fence. Try getting past that second layer.

There are liars and media enablers saying the fence doesnt work. They lie:
http://lonewacko.com/blog/archives/006711.html

In Cali, the fence cut border crossings by 97% ... from a flood to a trickle: “Before the area was partly fenced off as part of Operation Gatekeeper in 1996, 600,000 people were caught trying to sneak across the San Diego sector’s 66 miles of border, half of those within the first 5 miles from the Pacific coast. A decade and a half later, the number crossing the coastal area that now includes a 14-mile stretch of double fencing, stadium lights and sensors was just 18,000. “

As for motion sensors, etc. that fence advocates have always considered that misdirection for the goal of border security: “Together, government investigators concluded that the $429 million investment in sensors and cameras was close to useless .... “The promise of technology has been oversold,” Meissner warned. “And Congress is vulnerable to that overselling.” “

That’s why you focus on the basics - a real physical barrier that cuts the number of border crossing attempts by a factor of 20. With that reduced load, the same number of BP guards can be that more effective.

“The White House now appears to see a virtual border curtain as a necessary trade-off to gain Bush’s proposed guest-worker program. And for many voters, the need for a wall - preferably a physical one - has taken on a life of its own, the bottom line of any serious border policy.”

So its about amnesty and not getting the border fixed for the sake of national security and sanity in immigration law.

phooey.

Build the fence. Now. Then we can see what immigration problems remain.

I wouldn’t want my Representative to be voted out (Rep Doolittle). He’s vehemently against this immigration bill. He’s even trying to pass legislation that makes it impossible for illegals to get a mortgage loan. How they can get a mortgage loan in the first place I’ll never know.

I’ve often thought, for years really, that this is needed. However, I’ve also thought that our country is too geographically large, too many people asleep at the wheel, although, that could be a good thing.

Perhaps if the people, those of us that are fed up would march there would be no point in sending out the guard or police. Perhaps they would be on our side.

Tax Revolt is a good idea. I’ve said before on these threads we need to pick a day and everyone go to there HR office and change their tax exemptions to some ridiculous number, like 10. It’s the only way those of us with automatic withholding to not pay.

Ok. You mine where you can. Perhaps some property owners will be okay with that. How about machine gun posts. How about a Berlin Wall only not to keep people in but keep people out.

It’s b.s. that it CAN’T be done. It can be done, tall strong and wired with stronghold points for the weakest or vulnerable areas.

I think its time to stop paying taxes. $$ talks and it works both ways. Isn’t it possible to have your paycheck NOT take out taxes, you just have to pay in at the end of the year? I wonder if people did that, where they didn’t have a steady supply of money coming in every week, if they would feel the pinch. Also, what could they do if millions stopped paying taxes? Tie up the courts? Jail everyone? We need to march on Washington and stop paying taxes.

It is so discouraging to know that no mater what you do, or whom you write to, that they are igoring the majority of citizens that are against scamnesty.

So you say you want a revolution?

Sacramento Republican Assembly Announces
Unprecedented Vote By The Sacramento County Republican Party

Sacramento, CA - June 14, 2007 - In an unprecendented move Thursday night, a majority of the members of the Sacramento County Republican Party (SCRP) Central Committee voted to support a resolution to implore the United States Congress and President George W. Bush to pardon Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonzo Compean, and County Deputy Sheriff Gilmer Hernandez. The resolution also made known Congressman Duncan Hunter’s pending legislation, H.R. 563 -Congressional Pardon for Border Patrol Agents Ramos and Compean Act.

The final vote did not go without contention by the minority, including Chairman Craig MacGlashan. 4th Vice Chair Carl Burton, Treasurer Tom Scott, and Congressman Daniel E. Lungren, 3rd Congression District - CA.

Congressman Lungren’s staff, Peter Tateishi and Bob Door urged the SCRP Central Committee members to vote against the resolution stating Congressman Lungren’s position against the county party’s involvement in legislative matters. However, the SCRP By-Laws, ARTICLE II: PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES, Section 2.01 (C) specifically state:

ARTICLE II: PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SEC. 2.01: The Central Committee shall do everything it considers necessary and

desirable to:
C. Make known the official position, platforms, and policies of the Republican Party
upon county, state and national issues

Before a final vote was tallied, an unsuccessful motion was made by Congressman Lungren’s representative Peter Tateishi to table the resolution until the August SCRP Central Committee meeting. But conservative members of the SCRP, all too familar with the tactics of those members opposed to the conservative contingency, know that in August another motion would be made to table the resolution indefinitely. Therefore, the conservatives forced the hand of the general body to show support for Ramos, Compean and Hernandez for wrongful prosecution by Texas’ United States Attorney, Johnny Sutton.

The Sacramento Republican Assembly thanks those members who voted in support of the resolution, finding it appropriate to show strong support our law enforcement officers who daily put their lives on the line to protect the citizens of the United States of America against unlawful invasion, and exhonorate Ramos, Compean and Hernandez.

May God Continue to Bless the United States of America!
