House rejects security fence at the border

The U.S. House of Representatives shot down a proposal Friday by U.S. Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz, that would have built an 854-mile, double layered security fences along the Mexican border.

Franks noted that only 13 miles of a Mexican border fence approved last year have been built and that the fencing is needed to improve border security.

"With over 4,000 people crossing our southern border illegally every day, our border remains one of our country's most critical national security vulnerabilities. In order to carry out an act of terrorism, a militant Islamist simply needs a porous border and a dangerous weapon," said Franks in a statement.

Franks represents Glendale, Peoria, Sun City and Kingman.

The fence plan failed by 272 to 149 votes. Most Democrats (including Arizona congressional members Harry Mitchell, Gabrielle Giffords , Ed Pastor and Raul Grijalva) voted against the border fence plan.

Most Republicans (including Franks and fellow Arizona Reps. Rick Renzi and John Shadegg) voted for the comprehensive fence plan.

Mesa GOP Congressman Jeff Flake crossed party lines and vote against the border fence bill.

The House did approve an overall homeland and border security appropriations bill Friday. Mitchell said he backed that bill because it allocates federal money to hire more Border Patrol Agents and resources to deport violent illegal immigrant criminals.

"Deporting those illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes is absolutely imperative to keeping our communities safe," Mitchell said in a statement. Mitchell represents Tempe and Scottsdale.

The state's four Democratic representatives and Renzi voted for the final bill. Flake, Franks and Shadegg opposed.

The votes could be a precursor to a big political fight over immigration reforms, a guest worker program and how to deal with the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S.

Only those who don't know their history think the confederate flag is offensive.

True. But the fact is that the media focuses on one thing to delegitimize the actual reason for the march. This is about abuse of power, special interests and American sovereignty. No need to see Geraldo denouncing it as a bunch of racists throwing a tantrum.

You could have Lou Dobbs, Dennis Miller, Laura Ingraham, Duncan Hunter and the like speak. Get Border Patrol up there, Ramos and Campeons family, legal immigrants who did it the hard way. I heard a black radio host from LA on Rush one day and he was pissed. Get a broad spectrum of Americans, hell see if anyone from the CBC would speak. This is an American issue, force the Dems to sweat too.

What a wonderful photo op with the “stars and stripes” boldly displayed....just before Ted and the rest of the traitors wiped their ass with it.

The House of Representatives and the Senate voted last year to build the fence. The President signed it into law. They allocated the funds for it. Unless they passed a law rescinding that...BUILD THE FENCE!

These people voting like this, against something that became law last year, that they, at the time voted for out of political expediency...have no honor, no virtue...they violate their oaths of office daily, cavalierly.

I was at the Guadelupe River in central Texas last year rafting and camping. In the cabin near me were three dope smokin 60’s hippies complete with long gray pony tails. I chatted with them and asked them if they came down very often and they told me they were on their way to work with the Minutemen for a week. I was stunned to say the least.

“Guess she found out that the Hispanics don’t vote for “fences”.”

You've got that right. The first thing "undocumented Americans" do when they get a little cash together is go out and install a nice wrought iron fence.

It all appears hopeless to me, they want to ruin this country for some reason that I haven't figured out yet.

Immigration and Usurpation - Real reason why your Senator wants this immigration amnesty bill

Intersting that neither Ron Paul or Tom Tancredo voted.

I’m confused. Are they talking about the same 854 mile fence that has been signed into law and has already been started with money allocated to finish it? This makes NO sense.

Yes, I'm confused about the same thing.

We have no representative republic any longer. Only a government of anarchists catering to lawbreakers.

Bush is trying to break the republican party so Hillary will have the baton

Yep, that appears to be Bush's plan. First get a congressional Democrat majority so it'd be easier to push amnesty through, then get his father's good friend and collaborator's wife into the Oval Office. Then watch as the U.S. middle class dissolves, the vast majority of citizens become utterly dependent on government, borders are erased, and the political class and their big donors enjoy their unprecedented power behind their fortresses.

But they're in for a nasty surprise.

But your latest idea of using HAMAS from Gaza to replace TSA Inspectors is truly inspired."
