WASHINGTON At a gathering of Hispanic Christian and community leaders on Friday, President Bush pushed for support for an immigration bill that would legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, highlighting the compassion behind the bill.
Hispanic men and women were praised by Bush for making the United States more vibrant in fields ranging from art to business to religion, and for helping to change America for the better.
The president gave as example success stories of immigrants in the White House and government. He pointed to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) who is originally from the communist island of Cuba but is now a member of the United States Senate. He also spoke about a Hispanic American coast guard he recently met who graduated at the top of his class who shared in his speech about his migrant grandfather.
Isnt it a fabulous country where a migrant grandfather can come and have a dream and work hard, and theres his grandson talking about the promise of America in front of the president of the Untied States and his classmates, Bush said. Thats the beauty of America.
However, Bush did not neglect to mention the countrys responsibility to enforce the border, create a lawful way for foreign workers to fill vacant jobs, and resolve the status of illegal immigrants in the country without amnesty and without animosity.

Wheres the compassion for you?
LOL! I was to busy working over 40 yrs. with disabilities, surgeries, etc. No time to think about that.
BUSH IS SELLING OUT TO MEXICO AND TEDDY THE SWIMMER!!!
First, there is nothing Christian about encouraging lawbreaking, and subsidizing it with other people's money.
Second, the President's job is to defend the Constitution first and foremost. It is necessarily a secular job, and while I respect his Christianity, when it comes into conflict with the Constitution he must subordinate his religious views.
AngieGop, With a comment like that you must be making money off them or married to an illegal. This has nothing to do with Christianity but a lot to do with the laws of this Nation.
“I could never understand why the immigration problem had to be solved in one sweeping package of legislation”
Part of it is vote-pander to two ugly stereotypes at once. First of all the stereotype that if you prefer to reward the law-abiding and punish law-breakers, then you must be a hateful racist because certain laws affect hispanics more than other laws. Secondly, the stereotype that you can get hispanic Americans to vote for you if you ignore crime.
Trust me... many immigrant, hispanic, naturalized American citizens like myself are really put off by this double-insult.
Heard a clip of his speech on the news. He affected a lower class Chicano accent that sounded like a gangbanger from LA and put Hillary's BlackSpeak to shame.
We truly are ruled by Idiots on Parade.
B T T T
Her D.C. & Houston phone was busy but I got my fax to go through.
Hopefully since Jorge is a lame-duck she will not side with him.
Absolutely. When you give away your children's birthright for a mess of Leftist porrage, in particular.
I think Bush has lost his mind.........N U T S !!
The fraud underlying the entire liberal ethos. "Vote for us, and we'll take money from other people and give it to you!"
A platform with obvious staying power.
Bingo!
And guess who spoke at the same meeting? And praised President Bush?
Hillary Clinton !!!

I can no longer listen to that man's voice. When he comes on the TV, I have to hit the mute button and turn away from the screen. I can read his speeches here and elsewhere-but I just cannot stand to hear him any more.
Not only did I vote for him twice, I was one of those who stood for hours in the blazing sun to hear him speak, when he went on that cross country tour a few years back. I still have the ticket stubs somewhere. :-(
Anyone who calls Islam a Religion of Peace is not a Christian.
They want to get this off the front burner, as soon as possible. They want next year’s election to be on other issues. That is why there is such a frenetic hurry to try to shut off debate.
I believe the description you’re looking for is “nucking futs”!
AngieGOP: Those are individual values that don’t scale up to Immigration Policy. What a silly thing to say. Should Israel allow itself to be overrun by Arabs because Israel has better hospitals.... you think God would favor that?
I wish that someone who is supporting the bill please tell me (us) why this legislation would be good for AMERICA! I really don’t care if it is good or bad for the illegals, it must be good for America first, illegals are secondary.
