Judge orders man not to have girlfriend for 3 years

(AP) A judge has ruled that a 24-year-old Canadian man is not allowed to have a girlfriend for the next three years.
The ruling came after Steven Cranley pleaded guilty on Tuesday to several charges stemming from an assault on a former girlfriend.
Cranley, who has been diagnosed with a dependent personality disorder, attacked his girlfriend in an argument after their breakup.
He tried to prevent her from phoning the police by cutting her phone cord and punched and kicked her. He finally stabbed himself with a butcher knife when police did arrive, puncturing his aorta.
Doctors say Cranley has difficulty coping with rejection and runs a high risk to re-offend if he becomes involved in another intimate relationship.
Justice Rhys Morgan said Cranley "cannot form a romantic relationship of an intimate nature with a female person.
"That is the only way I can see the protection of the public is in place until you get the counseling you need."
Cranley had already served 146 days in pre-trail custody, which Morgan said was enough jail time in this case.
His lawyer says the no girlfriend order is the first of its kind that he has encountered.

Seeing the way some women act, she may well wait for him for 3 years and take him back. Some women are drawn to abusive relationships. Some like “bad boys”. Don’t ask me to explain why- I can’t.

Wouldnt it be easier to just, I dunno, LOCK HIM UP FOR THREE YEARS? Jeez. and safer for the ex-girlfriend?
(Like, since he supposedly suffers from a need to be dependent on a woman, he's going to steer clear of women for 3 years.)

A judge has ruled that a 24-year-old Canadian man is not allowed to have a girlfriend for the next three years. I haven't had a girlfriend for 26 years. I never considered this a "punishment."
Yeah, this is going to work. Too bad the ex-girlfriend can't get trained to carry and operate a handgun and wahck this whackjob when he shows up to beat to her death.

You learn something every day. Since I read this, I called my girlfriend and left her three messages asking if I was too “clingy” or “needy”, as far as she was concerned.

LOCK HIM UP FOR THREE YEARS? The judge didn't say anything about him being someone else's girlfriend!

Obviously, California needs to create large mental institutions, then put everyone in them who are not mentally ill, to protect them from the majority.

Domestic assaults are occur in a higher percentage among the gay/lesbian crowd. I wonder what kind of uproar we would see if the judge had made a similar ruling in a ‘gay-on-gay’ assault. Would he have ruled that the gay man could not have a boyfriend? HA! This will happen one day and when it does you can expect the ACLU to jump in quick.

Some men shouldn't have girlfriends. They behave badly around women. Yes. I've noticed that too. Girlfriends always behave badly around women.

Me too. My wife hasn't returned any of my calls and the last one was over 6 minutes ago. I'm going to take my van to her office and try calling her from there. I'd already be gone but I can't find the damn duct tape.
