Penalty Mitigation in the Immigration Reform Bill [White House Spokesman Responds: Post #53]

This morning on Fox and Friends there was made mention that much stricter fines are in the immigration reform bill. While this is true many folks may not know about a few words that follow the language about the tougher fines. Those words make a travesty of any "fines" as they can be waved and the employer could walk away owing nothing in penalties.

Here are the words I've got a problem with...

(D) The Secretary is authorized to reduce or mitigate penalties imposed upon employers, based upon factors including, but not limited to, the employer's hiring volume, compliance history, good-faith implementation of a compliance program, participation in temporary worker program, and voluntary disclosure of violations of this subsection to the Secretary.

So while we're being told that "the penalties are tougher" we aren't being told that under some circumstances employers can face reduced or even no fine whatsoever.
At this point of time in our history America can't afford our officials not being completely truthful to us and not stating that the possibility exists for employers to potentially be let off the hook completely is simply unacceptable.

All illegal aliens will not immediately gain legal status if this bill passes, and no one is immediately given Z status. The only people granted Z status are those who come out of the shadows and apply, which involves a probationary period that is gained through a preliminary background check.

They will stay in probationary status while a Z visa application is pending, and it may be revoked at any time if the applicant is found ineligible for the Z visa, fails to maintain a clean record, or fails the background check required for obtaining a Z visa.

If the applicant is found eligible for the Z status, then the worker must pay a $1,000 fine for head of household and $500 per dependent; up to $1,500 in processing fees per applicant, including heads of household and dependents; and a $500 state impact assistance fee.

Right...so...currently there are 20 million illegal aliens here who don't care about, refuse to comply with and/or are too illiterate to understand our current immigration laws. And our own government refuses to actually enforce our current immigration laws in any meaningful or effective way. So, what makes any sane person believe that an even more complex set of immigration laws is going to appeal to more than a minor portion of the 20 million illegals inside our borders or that our already overwhelmed immigration system can even come close to handling those new laws? Properly secure the border and create significant disincentives for illegal presence within our borders and major penalties for employing illegal aliens. There's no other plan to deal with illegal immigration that won't just make things worse than they already are.

Well, Mr Thompson,

I’m EXTREMELY underwhelmed. . . . at best.

1. NONE of the points you make are calming in the least.

2. The WILL to protect our Constitution; our way of life; our National sovereignty has evidently been systematically removed from Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas for some years now.

3. None of the points in the bill and none of the points you make give any HINT of Congress critters buying any new cajones at 7/11 in behalf of protecting the Constitution. It looks plainly like the ruling elite’s scheduled trashing of our National sovereignty and our way of life is moving along quite nicely according to their plan.

4. You merely seem to be cast in the role of trying to quiet the noisy serfs who’ve suddenly gotten in the way.

5. It may well be as many assert . . . that the ruling elite has threatened so many DC power mongers and their families that all are kowtowing slavishly at every opportunity. However, God is still in His Heaven.

6. He declares that whenever evil floods in, HE WILL RAISE UP A STANDARD AGAINST IT. Students of Bible prophecy realize that some things must needs come to pass. However, WOE to those by whom they come to pass. God’s time-out room is Hell itself. And the time out is a VERY LONG time. Traitors are not high on His list of favored critters.

7. It appears that about all the patriotic GOP Congress critters have been seduced into being neutered RINOS. And that therefore, REPRESENTATIVES of the people, for the people and by the people are in very short supply.

8. However, it would be foolhardy to the max to thereby assume that us ignorant serfs have no champions. Sure, talk radio has some left. But I’m sure the elite have scheduled the silencing of same. Trent Lott himself—clearly a wolf in RINO clothing—has brazenly indicated as much.

9. Were all else to fail . . . God Almighty is our champion. A LOT of us still know how to pray and pray earnestly and effectively.

10. I realize that the elite are convinced that all their black ops exotic technologies are in place and well able to manage all our citizens into thoroughly neutered automatons servicing totally and only the whims of the elites. Such rulers will discover they have miscalculated. God has a LOT more hidden and more powerful in His little fingernail than they do in all their secret bunkers.

11. We are not so stupid as to miss that the immigration nonsense is really about our National sovereignty. We realize that the elites are determined to trash our sovereignty in favor of a socialist global government of secular humanist tyranny. We realize that regardless of any law passed, the business as usual of an open border will continue on the way to the North American Union whether it’s traitorous, or not. So, please avoid blowing smoke in dark places about the pending bill.

12. We also realize that the lovely elites are just as determined to trash the traditional family and parents teaching their children values as the elites are determined to trash vigorous Evangelical Christianity that truly believes Jesus IS GOD and IS COMING AGAIN. However, we’ve read The Book to the end. Guess Who wins!

13. It appears that you have already chosen sides, Mr Thompson. Evidently you are convinced that your side is the winning ticket. But it’s not too late to reevaluate.

14. Patriots are pretty forgiving in the face of authentic repentance and a change of course.

15. However, when God begins to move in power and might against evil tyranny . . . the time for ready repentance may be past. Choose this day Whom you will serve. Time is running out.

If you pass this bill the number of “Americans” who gained citizenship as the result of a crime will be over 30,000,000, and the people the new group of criminal aliens drag in behind them will balloon the population of that group to 60-70,000,000 in a matter of a few years.

Within the second generation this group will expand to a sufficient size to dominate the US political landscape, and we will be taken apart from within.

The President deeply insulted me and many other FReepers as well a many Conservatives. We will not forget that. We are tired of his NAU agenda and the following NWO. No point in denying it there is too much proof. We want the BORDERS shut down - note it is plural. I do not want ANY person who got here illegally to be rewarded with the precious gift of “Citizen of the United States”. I (and many others) do not trust the President to do ANY of the things to tighten border security in his proposal today. He has no credibility here. He has had six years to deal with that.

We will fight to our best ability ANY bill that allows “amnesty” or any other reward of citizenship to a CRIMINAL.

The White House needs to listen to the public. There are between 65-80% of the American public, on both sides of the aisle, who are against ANY kind of amnesty until the borders are sealed. Can you remember anytime in recent history when over 65% of America agreed on anything?

We just got warmed up and mobilized last week. We are ready for the next round and you are not prepared for the volume and intensity of it.

If you want a bill that we will not resist then you just need to read more on FR. There are many great effective solutions to the problem. We will not stand for any amnesty.

As a legal immigrant who moved here over 20 years ago, who went through all the legal channels, whose older brother (over 18) had to wait over FIVE years until my parents got their citizenship and managed to petition in his favor I have to tell you that you guys, plain and simple, SUCK. Where is the fairness to the ones who do not have the geographic proximity advantage to move to this country? Where is the fairness for my brother who had to wait all these years so all our family can be together? Continue to anger us, ignore us and you will see the outcome at the polls. Unfortunately the whole nation will lose by electing a Democrat and you alone will be responsible for destroying our beautiful country.

I am in healthcare and when one facility is going in such crisis the only answer is to completely shut it down and rebuilt it all together. It is time to do the same with the GOP, flush out all the Liberal non-sense and bring back the Reagan conservatism.

I agree that Hillarious would be on track with globalization, but look back and discern how we have gotten here. Slowly, very slowly. It has gone back to Reagan and it is not changing.

The republican party is just as much to blame as the democrat party, neither side stepped up to the plate to secure the borders and that should tell us all what the plan has been.
