Rush Limbaugh has long been a thorn in the side of liberals, but now, because of him, some Democratic politicians don't even want to join with a local radio station to broadcast hurricane information.
Radio station WIOD, AM 610, has been the official channel for emergency information from Broward County government for the past year. The County Commission, all Democrats, balked at renewing the deal Tuesday, unable to stomach the station also being home to Limbaugh's talk show.
Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want to support a station that's out of step with area politics. Ritter, a Democratic stalwart in the state Legislature before being elected to county office, cited talk shows hosted by Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD's partnership with Fox News.
The deal with WIOD would ensure that news conferences are broadcast start to finish live from the county Emergency Operations Center in Plantation. Emergency managers became concerned during hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 that radio and television stations preempted their announcements in favor of news out of Miami

While I was at the courthouse paying the fine I would have taken that out in trade.

We lived there ( Coral Ridge) in the early 90s and the county was slowing becoming hostile but Hurricanes Andrew changed the county demographics over night . Plus, all our nice neighbors were long time retires had died off or sold out after Andrew and the new group were aggressive rich pain in the asses.

If you disagree with the politicization of emergency preparedness, please send your comments to the County Commission and the writer of this article. Let them have a full dose of the disgust that we feel.

I was born into a family situation, residing in a melting pot community, where doors to apartments were left open and kids roamed back and forth between families; where Polish, Russian , Yiddish, French, Italian, Hebrew and Portuguese, were used as often as English. As generational family members died off and children were born a sort of comfortable lingua Franca formed. I take particular pride in being able to pronounce words in most European languages providing they are not written in cyrillic letters, or the NEW European alphabet, ARABIC.

You're wrong. People like this will fight for the "free speech" of any and all porn peddlers or Hollywood sickos.
A state ACLU President was arrested for kiddie porn that showed young children being tortured. Do liberals want to protect that "speech". The guy was an ACLU bigshot...
Liberals are not totally against free speech. They're just against free political speech. Speech that's different than theirs... you know, totalitarian.
Are our founding fathers are spinning in their graves? Bet on it.

Well I’ve been here for most of 35 years, and it wasn’t til after they built Century Village in Deerfield and some of the other high density retiree compounds like Wingate in Coconut Creek in the ‘70’s that our politics really started to change and not for the better. In any event in a couple more years I’m outta here.
Been looking at Northeastern Ohio and Southeastern/South central Michigan, it’s where I’m from and I really miss it, was just up there last month, still love it, its changed some but not like this area has.
