SOFIA, Bulgaria - President Bush, turning from adulation in the Balkans to difficulties back home, said Monday that his stalled immigration overhaul would be revived and his embattled attorney general would not fall under a Senate vote of no-confidence. ADVERTISEMENT
"I'll see you at the bill signing," Bush said confidently about an immigration bill that has run into deep trouble on Capitol Hill.

They are different, but not in any meaningful way. Heads, I win. Tails, you lose.
Meanwhile, the powers that be keep everyone focused on the labels. Because who wants to be “racist?” Who wants to back a losing party?
America is being manipulated and is having its inherent good-nature turned against it.
It is the Bush haters who will continue this free ride by insisting on the the non passage of immigration reform. President Bush is not giving anybody a free ride. He cannot. Your legislators that you elected have the job of crafting the legislation that their constituents ask for. President Bush has responded to the desperate need for immigration reform by getting the congress to address the matter. You are not satisfied with what they have come up with and have insisted on shooting any compromise down. Your frothing fellow posters do not even want their representatives in the House to get the bill so that they can sign on or not. The House has the power to change that bill any way they want. Why is there this attempt to stop it prematurely? If you truly want some in depth understanding of my position regarding this immigration topic, go to the website for THE ANCHORESS. She is quite good at presenting her thinking in an unemotional and very understandable context.
I am not a Bush hater. I voted for him twice and had high hopes that he would go down in history as a great President because of his firm stand on protecting our Country against Islamic terrorisms.
I am one who is insisting on the non passage of immigration reform, as drawn up in this bill being considered. This is not about immigration reform. This bill is more about illegal alien reform. We don’t need to reform our country’s laws against illegal aliens. We need to ENFORCE our country’s laws against illegal aliens — not change the laws.
I respectfully disageement that President Bush is not wanting to give anybody a free ride. That is exactly what he is trying to do — it is a free ride — but it is not free. U.S. taxpayers will be paying for it.
Our country cannot afford this illegal alien reform bill. Economically, politically, socially. We can’t afford it. It will destroy the United States.
Although you probably will not divulge it, you must have a hidden agenda — to support this illegal alien reform.
I think that is the correct interpretation of the issue, and the only non-legislative path to correcting the practice. There is SUCH cost to the issue to taxpayers, a constant drumbeat of just how much EACH taxpayer is suffering at the hands of the illegals' benefits that it has to become openly repeated over and over to garner massive support.
Thanks.
(Maybe someone will READ your post and act to implement a plan like that.
The House of Representatives, should they be given the opportunity to work on this bill, can amend it any way they want. Since you do not want this bill that the senate has crafted, why would you prefer to kill it rather than give it to the House to amend? Don’t you trust your congress persons either? It is just Pres Bush that lazy people choose to denigrate. Don’t inform yourselves about how the legislative sausage is made. The illegals will continue to pour in, and step it up now to beat whatever legislation might come up next. Your last line about a hidden agenda is, to put it nicely, a crock.
The second half of that hyphenated compound word is misspelled. Care to buy (another) vowel?
Nope,,,None for this ol’man,,,I outgrew that stuff in the 60’s,,,I mite have to put my “crown” on though...;0)

> I hear what youre saying but I think thats a sweeping generalization. It comes down to this. Do I want my daughter to live around dangerous neighborhoods, street gangs, seedy men, etc.? Or would I rather her live in a safe area where she may have to go through a bunch of red tape to open a business?
Seek, I tell you what. The EU is no safer than us, and they have their own set of immigration problems, and only now are they waking up and smelling the espresso in France. You’d be exchanging a win-lose to a lose-lose.
You are also talking about “freedom to” vs. “freedom from”. Our country, and most successful democracies, were build on “freedom to”. The Commies and Islamofascists bank on “freedom from”. Yeah, the women are all safe in their burkhas... at what price?
The worst thing to do is to give up. Never give up, never surrender! :-)
I can’t imagine, and indeed shudder at what W might try to do NEXT ...

Remember the photoshopped magazine cover showing Clinton flipping us all off? Someone should paste Bush's face on that photo.
You do not want 50 mill Mexicans legalized? Without legislation to stop the continued flow of illegals into this country, you will have many more. Killing this legislation is tantamount to giving amnesty to those already here. They can continue life as usual while nothing is done. One would almost come to the conclusion that the rabid attacks on President Bush were for the purpose of making sure nothing gets done to stop illegal immigration. Talk about agendas and conspiracy theories. Oh My!!
I always thought that Bush was in with the Clintons and I think he wants Hitlery to win. That relationship with Clinton and his dad was odd too. Nobody really knows the truth about whats going on in politics anymore. But the secret meetings about the immigrations’ reform stinks to high heaven.

The way he has gathered executive power like no other President in history, I’m worried about that too... and the DIMS will DEFINITELY help him with that one...

Isn’t it great how W is so worried about Iraq’s borders and sends our guys across the world to defend them? /sarc
God bless your housemate’s son. These are crazy times.
> Killing this legislation is tantamount to giving amnesty to those already here.
That is GARBAGE. If we only put money into existing laws (including the one to build a fence), and built more teeth into penalties for companies hiring illegals, this would solve the majority of the issues. What’s wrong with this simple plan?
All Muhammed has to do is scoot across the border, rename himself “Jose”, and apply for a Z visa. The investigation clause is a joke — you really think those millions can all be properly vetted? In the single day alotted? He’ll be in the system and under the radar.
