Did you really watch it all these years just so you could see the ending? :o Or did you enjoy it along the way?
A big part of the reason why I enjoyed it so much along the way was because each week I became more and more curious to see what would become of Tony, and because the writing and twists were absolutely gripping. Where was all of that in the finale? Instead of great writing all that was delivered was "leave it to your imagination". Hell, I could have came up with a finale like that and no one is calling me a genius. What a ripoff...

Oh, I actually have a little info. Supposedly a friend of a friend saw from a dsistance the last episode being filmed at Holsten's (I was told this before the episode aired). They saw an actor firing a gun. I have heard Chase filmed several endings so no one would know the real one. It seems entirely possible he shot a scene in which some or all of the Sopranos were shot. Certainly the scene was heading that way. But that extra filiming may have just been a misdirection.
Still, the set up of the scene was deliberate. If it was just the family together, no need to keep showing Meadow delayed and rushing in late.

Without italics this time- Tony is supposed to be a sociopath, and the rest of his family are at least completely self-absorbed. They are mobsters and their enablers, not nice people and not likely to take any action that wouldn't first and formost benefit themselves.
A.J.'s sudden decision to join the Army wasn't decision made from sudden burst of patriotism, but part of his attention seeking behavior and implusiveness. His actions, and Tony and Carmela's reaction reflect on them, not the general decision to join the Armed Services. If anything, it showed respect for those who choose to serve- do you really think that someone like A.J. would make a good soldier?

The cat is going to rat out Tony to Will Smith because Tony put the galaxy around his neck.

Knock yourself out... :-)
Did you notice that they were serving Heinz ketchup, I think that was a blatant anti-Bush message as well. And those onion rings were pretty small, probably the result of stunted onion growth due to water shortages caused by global climate change! :-)

IOW, Chase left the ending to our imagination.
What a lazy, uninspired sack of....

That would be a very cool, underhanded way to end it. I didn’t notice the Russian, and assume you are just joking. Now I have to go to the Tivo.

We’re sitting there watching a slice out of Tony’s life, when all of a sudden everything went black and silent. We got whacked. We were the ones that got whacked. Tony’s world goes on, but we’ve been cut out of the action.

Bummer. I was hoping he would choke to death on an onion ring.
