Of Drunks, Panties And Immigration
America Talks ^ | June 10, 2007 | David Zublick

Posted on 06/10/2007 8:20:46 AM PDT by AmericaTalks

The Paris Hilton train wreck this past week shows unequivocally that our society is collapsing from within.

It was not about Hilton. It was about us. Here is a woman, a celebutante, a pop tart, receiving more attention than the top story of the week; namely the Bush immigration bill going down in flames.

We were at first shocked and outraged that Hiton was released from jail just five days into an already reduced sentence for committing a crime that could have resulted in her death or the death of other people. We then sat transfixed as we watched the images of Hilton being picked up at her house and brought back to the courtroom. This was reminiscent of the slow speed O.J. Simpson Bronco chase. Wall to wall coverage.

When the judge ordered Hilton to serve her entire 45 day sentence, we both cheered and jeered, depending on how we view the situation. But the bottom line is, we had an opinion. We had an opinion about the images of her crying in the back seat of the squad car, we had an opinion about the screaming fit she exhibited in the courtroom. At water coolers in offices across the United States, the name of Paris Hilton was on the lips of just about every individual.

What does that say about us as a nation?

It says that we are hung up on celebrity status. We love to prop up the rich and famous, then tear them down. It says we care more about whether or not Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan are wearing their panties than whether 30, million illegal aliens will continue to infest our nation. It says we show more concern over Hilton's brief incarceration, than we do over two true patriots, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, who are serving 11 and 12 year prison sentences respectively, for protecting our nation admirably from drug smuggling maggots.

The fact that the Hilton story was the major news item of the past week makes it crystal clear that our priorities as a nation are screwed up.

The bottom line here is that Hilton got what she deserved. And if we allow the President to resurrect this immigration bill, a truly more important issue, we will get what we deserve.

Memo to Bush: After Hilton gets out of jail, after Lohan sobers up, after Spears gets her underwear back on, recruit them to sell your amnesty plan through public service announcements. The public will probably buy it.

Most people are afraid to think about the immigration issue, afraid to face the fact that they are powerless, afraid to think of the consequences to them and their families of their own personal lack of power in the face of this invasion. So, they turn to the circus and, for now, pretend that all is ok, with the minor exception of a rich strumpet getting unequal consideration from the criminal justice systems.

I did not realize that President Bush had secretly started the Immigration Bill.

A driver who violates the terms of a suspended license is bad.

What Sandy Berger did in stealing and destroying documents pertinent to investigations as to how the 9-11 attacks occurred and where there were weaknesses in National Security was worse.

The media never gave a Rat’s @$$ about Sandy’s slap on the wrist punishment. The public did, you just didn’t hear about it in the MSM.

Both Paris and Sandy “deeply regret” their errors. Who do you believe more? A young ditsy girl or a lawyer who served in the Clinton Administration and was caught covering up for same administration?

I think both stories show a victory for the rule of law over bleeding heart liberalism. One was a big victory one a little victory. Don’t misunderestimate the importance of the little victories.

What all of this really shows is that our MEDIA is all screwed up. The fact that the illegal alien amnesty went down shows that we DO care, we are out doing the right thing, and we are being proactive about it. The politicians thought that we were going to be wallflowers about this issue and they were grossly mistaken. They thought they'd slip this by us and they ran into a buzzsaw instead.

Most people's priorities are just fine, it's the media that is all out of whack. If the so-called war on terror were being run in accordance with the wishes of the people, we'd be funding the military properly, taking it to the terrorists and their bastard countries, and be giving them a war they can't believe.

Here's another good sign: the alphabet network news ratings are at their lowest in 20+ years.

Life is a cabaret, old chum.
Come to the cabaret.

No one I know has mentioned Paris Hilton or Britney’s panties, and no one I know cares about either. No one I know has wasted enough time watching the “drama” to comment on its particulars. If you think this drivel is transfixing America then I believe you’ve been drinking too much media koolaid.

What does that say about us ...

If I'm reading you right, it says this whole furor gives us a handle to get attention to something (completely unrelated) that we want to talk about. For that, Paris, we are grateful.

Another thing to consider, 12 million people who circumvented long established law about illegally entry would have gotten a slap on the wrist for their continued crime spree (which includes more personal issues to average Americans like identity theft).

The media and politicians said we were wrong to want to see enforcement of our laws.

Paris doesn’t matter to me. Media hypocrisy and hyperbole is bunk.

In 1998 America was distracted from the Clinton scandals by a home run race between McQuire and Sosa. Pushed the “bad news” right off the front page.

If you really want anything to do with that skank or her panties, you need to get your head examined.

No offense ;-)

Sure it is transfixing America. At least the TV pop-culture America who do not get exposure to relevant issues worth diddley squat from the MSM and the alphabet networks.

If something more relevant were on, even the pop tart for breakfast bunch might opt for steak and eggs instead.

But the perception is that if it gets airtime, it must be important.

That is a media malfunction, and why our TV spends most of the time on cartoon channels when it is on, for the grandkids.

As bad as the Clinton scandals were in terms of what they showed us about the character of our President, they didn't directly threaten your personal life.

This invasion does. Whether you can directly measure the minute-by-minute increase in that threat or not.

Every minute of every day, YOUR chances of being robbed and murdered by an illegal-alien is increasing, and every minute YOUR share of the illegal-alien welfare/healthcare/prisoncare expense tab is increasing.

Every minute.

You can't compare that to a misplaced Clinton cigar.

I turned my tv off several days ago... Every time I go to the grocery store, all you see in the check out aisle are scandal sheets with the latest ParisLohanAngelinaBradPitt crap.
No wonder we have turned into a country of mush brains. Unless you are self motivated to learn more than what the MSM dishes out, you are doomed to a life watching The View and reading the Star....

Your friends are paying attention to real issues. I was watching C-Span as much as I possibly could (and calling Senators’ offices) but I’ll be that American Idol and TV gossip shows’ ratings creamed C-Span.

I’ll bet Bush has not read the amnesty bill he is pushing.
