WASHINGTON -- President Bush suffered a devastating setback on his top domestic priority on Thursday as a broad immigration bill collapsed in the Senate amid an apparently irreconcilable partisan standoff. The 627-page bill was taken off the Senate floor at the end of a contentious day that saw the bill's sponsors desperately trying to resolve differences between Democrats and Republicans over GOP demands to offer additional amendments.

How can we be so sure a bill is dead when the Democrats have the votes to pass it in Congress and President Bush wants to sign it?Talk about the bill’s demise are premature and just a distraction by the media.
It’s not just Graham Cracker, according to the article, there are all sorts of quislings still trying to do CPR on this shamnesty. May they all be recalled!
“Graham should retire and open a hair salon with Edwards” in Fire Island.
A couple of weeks back the major SC newspapers had a story on Grahams war chest for his upcoming campaign. Something like 80% of his money was from outside of the state. He doesnt represent the interest of South Carolina or the US for that matter! I cant imagine see how he could possibly get reelected. The loss wont matter because he, Kyle and the rest of the turncoats have been well compensated for their treason.
When Graham and Edwards move to Fire Island, they can take along all-hat-and-no-cattle Trent Lott.
It wasn't just republicans, many democrats had amendments. James Webb (D-Va) for example had an amendment pending that would restrict the z-visas to people who had been here 4 years or more, vastly limiting the number of people who would qualify.
‘President Bush suffered a devastating setback ....’
The moment I heard Dingy Harry Reid proclaim ‘This is the President’s bill’ I knew it was dead.
Actually, Kennedy and McCain suffered a ‘devastating setback’ particularly McCain - since he now has ZERO CHANCE of gaining the nomination, instead of last week when he had a 3% chance.
The immigration bill is not dead...like the parrot in Monty Python it’s just resting...pining for the fjords.
“It wasn’t just republicans, many democrats had amendments.”
We have to take names and kick @@s.
thanks for the laugh.
When is weasly Lindsey’s term up?? Let’s hope he faces a challenge from a true conservative. S.C. is too great a state to have a sell-out like Lindsey representing it.
Hopefully, the voters of South Carolina will put some ice on this twit shortly....
But then they start losing lefty votes when the amendments pass, don’t they? I can see there’s a threat of it coming to a vote after all, but aren’t the “grand compromisers” or whatever they’re called afraid of that? These “grand compromises” are always bad. I don’t know why the GOP is pushing for amendments. They should let it die. Enforcement First must be the new rally cry, I think.
Does that Punk have a primary opponent yet?
They am the one and the same
only if there is sufficient wood
At least Lindsey has provided his primary opponent with ready-made campaign ads, gushing and fawning over his great friend Teddy Kennedy.
That’ll go over real well in SC.
