Corker and Alexander are my Senators too. I am awfully proud of them tonight. But getting back to Bush, my gut feeling is that he was the person we thought he was at first. I think something happened in his second term to change him drastically. Its almost like he has made a deal with the devil. I don’t understand his unwillingness to face the fact that Iran is behind the killing of our troops and deal with it. I just don’t understand him. Where’s his logic?
He doesn’t have to run for re-election?
Actually, he’s talked about amnesty, globalization and the AU from the beginning, but I was too dense to realize he truly meant it and would try to destroy this country and ram it down our throats. Looking back over the last eight years, I feel a fool for not paying attention to what he said instead of what I wanted to hear or believe he thought. I still believe he is doing what he feels to be in the best interest of the country. I cannot (for sanity’s sake) believe that everything he has done has been solely out of self-interest. If so, that would make me a bigger fool than I could bear.
Worth repeating for the benefit of everyone - a reminder of eight years ago during the discussion of immigration on FR in 1999 & 2000. Many here at FR werent supporting Bush on the basis of that single issue... He stated then that he was in favor of an immigration bill and guest worker program very like this one. It was my single greatest reservation about Bushs nomination, and I finally conceded, Well just have to depend on Congress to keep him in control on this issue...
...but now that the wonderful conservatives wanting to teach Republicans a lesson in 2006, that control is lacking. However, hes done well on nearly every other issue, so I wont complain too much about his presidency.
