Tonight's cloture motion has just gone down to defeat. No where near the 60 yea votes needed to cut off debate.
Harry now pontificating on Senate floor.
At what point in US history did we have enrforcement of the laws?
Amen, and I am determined to vote in the 2008 primary for the most anti-GWB candidate still on the ballot. I just fear that there will be no one left.
Everyone on this thread celebrating the demise of this bill is pro amnesty, pro illegal immigration and a failed patriot.
The bill contained fence provisions, deportation procedures, and other general enforcement provisions.
This means that those celebrating the bill support Amnesty.
I think this is an entirely fair assessment of the motives of those posting on this thread.”
Even newer idea:
Read the details of the bill.
It provided a half assed attempt at border security.
It provided for in state tuition for illegals.
It essentially did away with (meaningful) background checks for those seeking a “pathway to citizenship”. If an illegal was under hardship (if it would take over 72 hours to prove country of origin) to provide proper ID...they just get a rubber stamped Z visa. Robbers, thieves, rapists, even Osama would be let in on a Z visa.
It was determined on more then a few occasions by some rather reputable “think tanks” that this bill if made into law would cost the American taxpayers trillions of dollars over the next 20 years. Do a search here on FR. Read up a bit before sucking down more k00laid, ok?
There was much more bad than good in this bill. Get over it, move on.
IMO, if the citizenry knew the truth about Bush’s masters’ agenda, it would be rejected as surely as any Democrat/Socialist agenda.
Agree ..Its principles over personalities. I fought hard for Bush ( Im in NY City , imagine the fights I got into being a Bush supported ) But he stabbed me in the back pushing this immigration bill. I have no clue what the hell he is doing these days but I’m sure disgusted with it and him .
Look up operation Wetback.
Not so fast: do you think the people of SC know what “yea” means. They don’t use that words, you hear?
You may suggest, but you will be wasting your efforts.
Small victory is a larger war. They haven’t given up, just gone back to the drawing board, and so should we.
Replenish the ammo and ranks! They will be back.
Legislation was passed last year for funding fence construction. Very little has been done to date. There are laws on the books which would take care of this problem, if they were enforced.
Yep.
Operation Wetback did not stop ALL illegal immigratio.
It was just SHAMNESTY in another form.
it was an effort to trick us into believing the government elitists were not pro illegal immigration.
I know I watch Lou Dobbs.
Did they run out of the “good” BBs to send out to represent them? They must be digging through to the grade school level now...somewhere in Paraguay...
No I wasn’t.
“Oh of course. It was SHAMNESTY. There would be ZERO enforcement with the bill.
But the good news is that now that this SHAMNESTY has been defeated, we will have TOTAL border enforcement and TOTAL deportation.
That is why everyone here is so excited and giddy.”
Do I have anything wrong here?
Yes, your whole premise.
We’re at 635. That is not many posts for what seems a great victory. Maybe we are missing something.
1950’s. Ike Eisenhower. Very successful!
JD Hayworth said they will try to sneak something in under the radar.
The bill also didn’t mention JUST HOW they would enforce anything . They can’t/wont enforce any part of the present laws , only a fool would think they could/would enforce a new immigration bill.iIT WAS A SCAM AS SURE AS I’M SITTING HERE.
