I too think that this case is very tragic and my prayers go out to this family, but the 24/7 media hypes these things up and you’d think that terrible things haven’t been happening to unsuspecting people for 1,000’s of years. And if she wasn’t young, white, and cuter than a pail full of puppies you wouldn’t see this story at all. Thousands go missing every year but if you tip the scales and have dark skin you aren’t ever going to make the “Breaking News” section of Fox or CNN.....
No, it wasn’t because she was white and cute, but because the whole thing was caught on tape, and therefore it was a race against time to find her. Many people who go missing are victims of people they know, and therefore it never makes the news, often because it’s not even known for some time that they were abducted or taken some place against their will. In this case, it was obvious. White people of all ages are abducted every year, and you never see them on TV. So I don’t think you can make this a racial thing.
That said, I wish we’d go back to the death penalty for sexual crimes, as we did until the 1960s. The news reports said the kidnapper had a long record, and I’m sure at least some of his crimes were rapes or sexual crimes of some sort. But we wait until these guys kill somebody before we even get concerned.
With regard to her being "young, white and cuter than a pail full of puppies" (which is very insulting to me right now, save those invectives for the MSM for later) her parents are very law enforcement/media savy and know that the most information that get's out as early as possible is the ONLY chance to reclaim their daughter, if possible.
Unfortunately, in our community, blacks have been calling all of the local news talk/TV stations complaining that "we never get that kind of attention that you lavish on while, affluent missing girls......" which is pretty racist on it's foundation --- especially as blacks usually refuse to TALK to the police, even when two local young men were shot in the past week. The young men KNEW who shot them but refused to tell the police!!!!
True that the media picks and chooses, but they did pick and so now we know, and we're saddened and angered about it.
Your words ring only too true, unfortunately. The media is way too into picking and choosing what abduction stories should be covered. Too often they don’t cover ones simply because the person is not “cute” enough for the news.
You need to quick taking drugs.
