However, now I do not feel alone. Peggy Noonan has a new column up in the Wall Street Journal Opinion Journal. She has clearly said what has been getting me down. I think I knew what was up, but couldn't put a finger on it. I knew it centered around the immigration debate, and the way our congressional leaders are behaving. That sentiment especially includes Mr. Bush too, but when I read this column, I felt like Charlie Brown yelling at Lucy at her Psychology booth when he yells, "That's it!" when trying to identify why he can't get into the Christmas spirit.

The White House doesn't need its traditional supporters anymore, because its problems are way beyond being solved by the base. And the people in the administration don't even much like the base. Desperate straits have left them liberated, and they are acting out their disdain. Leading Democrats often think their base is slightly mad but at least their heart is in the right place. This White House thinks its base is stupid and that its heart is in the wrong place.
For almost three years, arguably longer, conservative Bush supporters have felt like sufferers of battered wife syndrome. You don't like endless gushing spending, the kind that assumes a high and unstoppable affluence will always exist, and the tax receipts will always flow in? Too bad! You don't like expanding governmental authority and power? Too bad. You think the war was wrong or is wrong? Too bad.
But on immigration it has changed from "Too bad" to "You're bad."
The president has taken to suggesting that opponents of his immigration bill are unpatriotic--they "don't want to do what's right for America." His ally Sen. Lindsey Graham has said,

-—Well, I do not take kindly to be calling a liar. -—
I called the RNC liars, but maybe you should get used to it if you plan on sticking up for the bankrupt policies of this administration.
-—Why dont you quit be a damn whiner!-—
Spoken like a true member of inner circle! As Peggy said:
“I suspect the White House and its allies have turned to name calling because they’re defensive, and they’re defensive because they know they have produced a big and indecipherable mess of a bill—one that is literally bigger than the Bible, though as someone noted last week, at least we actually had a few years to read the Bible. The White House and its supporters seem to be marshalling not facts but only sentiments, and self-aggrandizing ones at that. “
We can understand your appreciation for GW Bush and his freeing of millions of persons under Saddam Hussein.
But think for one moment, any good conservative could had done the same thing, it’s not really dependent on GW Bush, we could have had the same outcome with another Republican, or even a blue dog democrat.
In baseball, we can get stuck on a ‘name’ player without realizing that although this great player has impressive statistics, he is deficient in other qualities that relate to the team. In Seattle for example, the Mariners baseball team had A-Rod (Alex Rodriguez) belting numerous homeruns and piling up really impressive statistics, yet the team always finished in the bottom half. After A-Rod was traded away, the Mariners went to their next season and won 116 games. The reason was said to be partly because A-Rod was interested in A-Rod.
What I am saying is, let’s fondly remember GWB for his 1st term amd all the good things he accomplished then, but let’s tell ourselves that we can have better by respectiful criticicism of the current policies.
Blood bath of epic proportions??? I doubt it very much. The Republicans are going to keep the White House in 2008. None of those democrats can win the Presidency, only Al Gore will be the biggest threat if he runs.
So what? It’s just your opinion.
As far as the words in red...you say she complained that he referenced God too much, then you accused her of not wanting God referenced at all.
So nice of Noonan to say something about the bible, since she has a problem with GW referencing God too much. And she is a conservative? A hypocrite more like it. What type of conservative has a problem with God being referenced?
“The small businesses are not going to obey the laws of hiring illegal immigrants because the government is not going to persecute them on this issue because doing so will wreck the economy.”
Then a new economy will surface. You’re still pretending we had no economy before millions of illegals slithered in to reap the rewards of our great economy.
You’re gonna need a new argument.
I second that.
GW could urinate on their leg and tell them its raining and they would be optimistic about the weather tomorrow..
Huh?
Honest people do not use God to prop up arguments that they cannot support with facts and logic.
I think that is the nature of the lady’s complaint.
To feverishly run with a cattle stampede to be in the style of the moment would not only be bothersome - but truly shameful.
I, along with plenty of others, know that President Bush does what he believes is right - not from political calculation and use of focus groups, but from a deep, abiding Faith in the Lord.
A final word:
“The Lord knows the thoughts of men, that they are but a puff of wind.” (Psalm 94:11).
You can drink that koolaid all by yourself.
Amen, Amen, and Amen.
Well said.
Thank yourself.
You’re exactly the sort that has enabled the treason lobby.
Bush is terribly wrong on this issue. He will destroy the country and the GOP if he is successful. I could care less about his motivation. It is the result I am concerned about.
You guys live in a delusional world. Thanks the Lord that our President is realistic and real Leader.
Aw, look another whiner that is ALWAYS going to find something to complain about. Not happy with your POTUS, I am sure you can bunk with Alec Baldwin when he leaves the country.
