Moscow, June 1, Interfax - Russia Today (Rusia al-Yaum) TV channel has started broadcasting in 32 Islamic countries after four month of testing, the channel’s Director Yevgeny Sidorov told journalists in Moscow.

‘I am sure the new TV channel will help us to bring to the international media space more objective information about Russia, which was not enough before,’ he said.

Moscow’s position of various current issues, he added, is interesting for the Arabic countries, and the surveys the channel leadership initiated ‘witness in favor of satellite broadcasting in Arabic.’

Rusia al-Yaum broadcasts twenty hours a day. The channel’s target audience is about 350m. The schedule is rather flexible so that it considers local peculiarities and particular state’s priorities and needs.

Sidorov said there would be some guidelines the channel will follow in its policy forming.

‘Our main principle is that Russia is a multiethnic and multiconfessional country with a considerable Muslim population. Russian-Arab relationships are an international stability and security factor. Geopolitical significance of relations between Russia and Middle East will be only increasing,’ he said.

Yep. I hope we are doing it, too.

We are. The United States funds an Arabic television network, and has for years.

Although there was a scandal there last month because we don't have enough gay interpreters on staff to tell us what the "talent" is actually saying. ;-)

Russia allied with Persia, Somalia and Libya.

“1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the chief prince of [a] Meshech and Tubal; prophesy against him 3 and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of [b] Meshech and Tubal. 4 I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army—your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords. 5 Persia, Cush [c] and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets”

There was also a scandal about Al-Hurra (the U.S. run Arabic TV station) because it ran a speech by Hezbollah thug-in-chief Hassan Nasrallah. At this rate, we’ve got a long way to go to catch up in the propaganda battle...
