Long story short, this is on behalf of a former teacher, who first of all is in the running for nicest person who has ever lived, always doing anything to help anyone who needs it. As I remember over the years he even 'adopted' some of his students who had abusive parents at home, and otherwise could be counted on to do just about anything you ever asked of him.
He also has suffered a lot in his life. He was experimented on by the Nazis in his childhood, and this manifested a lot of medical problems for him later on, especially with his eyes. The year I left, he was being treated for heavy metal poisoning.
Well, things took a really bad turn when he tried an experimental treatment for his growing back pain. It was supposed to use electrodes to reinforce such and such brainwaves, whatever that was supposed to do. What it ended up doing was totally messing up his mind, causing severe depression and debilitating mental episodes which have made it impossible for to even tread out in public, generally.
He was also lately cheated out of a lot of money by some people who took advantage of his kindness, and between that and medical bills (there are a lot of other things that have been going on) his savings have been evaporated, and he still hasn't found anyone locally who can do anything about what has happened to his mind. (and he is a smart, introspective guy... probably nothing worse could have happened to him)
So I can't think of much to do besides go soliciting the benefaction of some neurologists of a higher tier. I hope to disseminate letters/emails on his behalf, and hopefully (I realize it is a longshot) someone with some major skills can be convinced to go pro bono on this and help him out.
But searching for "top neurologist" or such in google doesn't really help... everybody thinks they're one of the best neurologists. It is not a field of small egos!
So, I am hoping to fish for names around here. Anybody you can remember from television medical documentaries, common knowledge, or even if you just know where to look to find out. I need to get to contact information for these people.
Any help would be awesome. :)
Prayers for the poor man and his troubles. May he get the help that he so very much needs.
In order to get an appointment, I had to have her medical records sent to them. They looked the records over and called back to say they would see her. It took about three months to get an appt. Now I am fighting with my health insurance about an out-of-network referral.
My dad had to pay out of pocket for anything he had done at the Mayo Clinic.
You may want to try a google search with this gentleman’s diagnosis, and you could find a neurologist with a particular interest and talent in that area of the discipline. “Top” neurologist is a somewhat subjective kind of designation, I don’t think that the answer would be the same for everyone.
Prayers for this fine man.
Since you’re in New Mexico, I wanted to add that Mayo Clinic has a site in Scottsdale, AZ. Which might be a more convenient choice than MN.
My Mother is a patient of a Neurologist at the University of Arizona, so you may want to consider checking into their program.
It is my impression that you will find that many “top neurologists” associated with research Universities. So start from there.
It is my non-medical degreed understanding that neurologists have sub-specialties, so focus on the challenge at hand rather than just finding “the best XYZ.” Finding the best eplileptologist isn’t what you need.
prayers for your friend and you.
i became disabled due to medical malpractice, my neourologic disorder is ataxia of the cerrebellum.
