Jordan: Stop Temple Mount digging
Jerusalem Post ^ | May 30, 2007

A Jordanian official called on Israel Wednesday to stop archaeological excavations in the Old City of Jerusalem, the official Petra news agency reported.

Israel has been carrying out excavations on a ramp leading up to a disputed holy site. The digging has sparked clashes between police and Muslims in Jerusalem and touched off fierce criticism throughout the Muslim world.

"Israel must stop its continuous practices and measures to Judaize the city and change its Arab and Islamic characteristics," said Abdullah Kanaan, the head of Jordan's Royal Committee for Jerusalem's Affairs.

Muslims fear the work will harm Islamic shrines on the hilltop compound, which is known as the Temple Mount to Jews and the Noble Sanctuary to Muslims, and whose fate is central to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israel insists the work would not harm Muslim holy sites and is meant to salvage archaeological finds ahead of the construction of a new pedestrian walkway up to the hilltop compound.

But Kanaan warned that "Israel's persistence to carry on with its measures will lead to more violence, terrorism and the determination of the Palestinian, Arab and Muslim peoples everywhere to fight the occupation.

Perhaps they fear that the Ark of the Covenant will be at last found remembering what happened last when it led the armies of Israel into battle.

Remind me again how many times the name of the city of Jerusalem appears in the Koran, and contrast that with how many times it appears in the Torah, or for that matter in the New Testament.

Go peddle your claims to Mohamed, who didn't seem to mention them. Don't forget your asbestos suit, it's warm where he is.

Sounds like a threat to me. I thought the Jordanians were supposed to be "moderate."

Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

Their history books don't quite go far enough back to know that.

I suggest if Jordan does not want them to dig...then they need to go to war against Israel and reclaim it. Yeah, bring it ON!
Well no telling what all they may find. I doubt the Ark is buried there, but could be lots of intresting stuff.
Isreal might tell Jordan, if they don’t cease and desist, the government of Isreal might consider starting to rebuild the third temple on the Mount next to the Al Aqsa Mosque, that would get real intresting!

Unbelieving Jews got their clock cleaned when they tried to use it to lead them into battle against the Phillistines. Read I Samuel. It is no good luck charm.

...Abdul Kanaan, the head of Jordan's Royal Committee for Jerusalem's Affairs."

That "committee" should have been abolished 40 years ago, when Jordan lost its sovereignty over the part of Jerusalem it held. It's persistence is an indicator of the delusional thinking regarding Israel that permeates most of the Arab world.

Get over it, Arabs, you lost Jerusalem and that's that!

Jerusalem does not appear in the Torah. I t onlyin the other Old testement books starting with Joshua.Only Genisis refers to Salem the name it was known by before the nation, Israel entered the land once.

Ignore the pip-squeaks Israel. They're gonna go off no matter what you do so just as well do as you want anyways.

This could be Jordan’s effort to push a few hot buttons of Isreal. The Muslims know that archological history is against them.

Mt. Moriah, where the Temples were later built, is the location of the binding of Isaac. In Genesis 22:1, the location is "the land of Moriah". In Genesis 22:14, it is referred to as the Mountain of the Lord.
