Kentucky 2007: Beshear (D) 51% Fletcher (R) 35%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | May 30, 2007 | Rasmussen Reports

Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher (R) survived a serious Primary challenge to once again claim his party’s nomination. But the Governor starts the general election campaign as a 16-percentage point underdog. Former Lt. Governor Steven Beshear (D) leads Fletcher 51% to 35% in the first Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the 2007 Kentucky Governor’s race.

The remnants of a divisive Primary battle for Fletcher can be seen in the fact that he currently earns support from just 63% of Republicans. Twenty-five percent (25%) of GOP party voters plan to cross party lines and vote for the Democratic challenger. Beshear leads by eleven points among men and twenty points among women.

I honestly have no idea what the hell KY Republicans were thinking in the primary race. Northup would have had an excellent shot at winning, but as it stands, congrats! - you likely just got yourself a liberal Dem governor.

Doesn’t look good — Beshear is a far left loon. Why do we continue to make the same mistakes, of supporting incompetent corrupt incumbents at all costs? This costs us elections, guys. For all her flaws, Northup would be leading Beshear by the same margin Fletcher is trailing.

Fletcher beat Nortup - 50-36. Terrible showing for an incumbent.

According to Survey USA, the situation is even worse -- they have Beshear leading by nearly 30 points.

1 If the election for Governor were today, would you vote for the Republican ticket of Ernie Fletcher and Robbie Rudolph? Or the Democratic ticket of Steve Beshear and Dan Mongiardo?

And a poor showing by a challenger against a weak incumbent. What has Fletcher screwed-up? Why is he so weak?

The Doc has the communication skills of our President. The liberal media and the Dems were able to run circles around.

1) The Dem Attorney General investigated the Doc hiring only Republicans to govt positions. The AG claimed that is political cronyism and corrupt.

2) The Doc refused to commute the death sentenace of a convicted murder. KY medical associations claimed the Doc was being unethical for not doing anything to curb the death penalty in Ky. To those medical associations, “Do No Harm”, means being anti-death penalty.

3) The Teacher’s Unions mounted an expensive ad campaign accusing the Doc of eroding the quality of education.

In each of those instances, the Doc was unable to handle the negative press.

The moral of story - If you can’t communicate, then you can’t lead.

Fletcher and virtually his entire staff have been criminally indicted for various abuses of power. I’d be willing to wager he’ll be the target of a federal indictment before the end of summer. Fletcher is so corrupt, he’d make Bob Menendez blush, a disgrace and an embarassment to the entire Republican Party.

Apropos of nothing,

Fletcher, the apparently soon-to-be-ex-governor of KY, is an outspoken supporter of teaching Intelligent Design, whereas Northup supports science.

Thought you might find that interesting.

Fletcher is almost as bad as Bob ‘Tax Em!’ Taft was here in Ohio.

He’s the idiot that had his state provided plane violate DC’s airspace during Bush’s second inaugural, btw.

Fletcher's got a lot of problems, but being a creationist in Kentucky isn't one of them.

“Fletcher is so corrupt, he’d make Bob Menendez blush, a disgrace and an embarrassment to the entire Republican Party.”

And where is your proof? The corrupt AG brought bogus charges against him and his staff which 3 former Governors which I might add are DemoRATS said that they did the same thing. This was a total hack job personal destruction crusade by the RAT machine from the start. Earnie’s only crime is that he communicates like Bush.

Kentucky doesn’t elect Republican governors. Fletcher was the second Republican elected governor since at least 1950 (roughly my lifetime).
