Gone, Baby, Gone director Ben Affleck, who tried mightily - but unsuccessfully - to get Sen. John Kerry elected to the White House, said he expects ex-Gov. Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee in 2008.
Chatting about the upcoming presidential race on the season finale of Real Time with Bill Maher, the Cambridge homey said he thinks the GOP will end up with Romney because the ex-gov looks good, has nice hair - and the Republicans really dont have anyone else.
He says he doesnt like abortion and hes all clean-cut and he looks like a Ken doll, said Affleck who was doing a rather amusing imitation of our ex-gov during the Romney rant.
The Mormonism thing is really suspect, he added, but theyll take it at this point. I mean, who else do they have? Crazy (Rudy) Giuliani and (John) McCain whos completely insane? They dont have any other options.
Humorist P.J. ORourke, who was also on the panel, pointed out that Romney has a fundamental problem with conservatives: He was governor of Massachusetts.
Which really sent Ben off the deep end!
I hate liberals, is what hes basically now saying. Hes holding his nose saying, I wish I didnt even have to be in Massachusetts. Im sorry I was there. I hated them when I was governor. I hated Massachusetts. I was governor because I wanted to kill them all!
Added Maher: If he were a movie, hed be Say Anything.
Affleck, a lifelong Democrat who was identified as actor/activist on the show, also had some harsh words for his own party , launching an f-bomb-laden tirade against the pols who caved in on the presidents Iraq spending bill.
These (bleeping) people, he said. This is the (bleeping) problem with that. Democrats live in fear of basically being called cowards, he said.
Affleck surmised that the Demmies were afraid to demand timelines for troop withdrawal from Iraq in the spending bill because the president would slam them while they were away for the Memorial Day weekend.
While they were on vacation they were afraid of being criticized, he said. So . . . they sacrificed their core political beliefs. And they wonder why people call them (bleeping) weak.
Romneys main mouth Eric Fehrnstrom, when asked to comment about the Affleck rant, told the Track in an e-mail: I think the polite thing to say is no comment. We dont spend a lot of time thinking about what Hollywood actors are saying about the presidential campaign.
Unlike John Kerry - Bens last No. 1 presidential pick.
File Under: Ben Heard.
Can't direct.
Can't think.
Can bloviate.
Affleck + Maher + the Democrat Party = a match made in Hollywood.
Priceless.
.... whines the Hollywood glamor boy.
I could consider voting for him.
I used to like Ben in the Kevin Smith days. But now, I just call him Ben Assflack.
I'll say it again, with out profanity, much of Hollywood and the Liberal Left would be incapable of self-expression.
Search is your friend. :-)
Himbo.
Just another hollywood type talking about something he knows nothing about.
I would advise him to stick with acting, but he’s not a good actor.
Ben, a flake.
He’s no doubt trying to propagate the myth that the Republicans “have no one else” because the entire Hollyweird left is terrified of Fred Thompson.
Ben seems borderline retarded sometimes too.
Oh, really, Ben? Who do you have, you nut case?! We will have FRED THOMPSON! You have HILLARY.
Look in the mirror, fleck. That's your bread and butter.
What most average Democrats, Liberals, and many republicans don't realize is this: That "caving in" thing was no such thing. The D's KNEW what would happen, they never, ever expected the bill to pass. This was all a bunch of posturing on BOTH sides, BOTH sides got out of it exactly what they wanted.
You gotta love that response from Team Romney. :-)
I agree with Ben Affleck on this point.......
P.J. ORourke was slumming it going on Bill Mahr.
Kinda funny, considering that the only reason Affleck has any career is because he actually does look like a “ken-doll”.
Dumb as dirt.
