As for me, I'm not afraid to say it plainly so there's no question as to who I support.

Not at all. I have never voted third party in a national election. But if Rudy is nominated, all bets will be off.
He represents the dark face of the Culture of Death. Earlier I hoped that he might change, but he has made it very clear that he has not.
Of course Hillary would be dreadful. Worse than her husband. But the alternative simply is unacceptable. Those who still support Rudy for the nomination don’t get it.
Here’s another one.
Rudy would also appoint Ruth Bader Ginsberg's sisters to the court.
There is no acceptable solution except not to nominate Rudy. Those who push for his nomination need to be warned beforehand what the dire results would be. It is foolish to pretend otherwise.
The basic premise of this article is completely flawed. Giuliani “leads” the GOP pack with no more than 25%-30% support in most polls, so there is no evidence to support the notion that anyone to the right of the leftist wing of the Republican Party is supporting the guy.

Probably a conservative party would come together to take the place of the defunct Republicans, but it would take a long time. Better to do it the easy way, and nominate a decent candidate.

Hold your horses, Mama. My bad for painting with too broad a brush, so that you have taken offense.
I imagine you are talking about Rudy Giuliani when you wrote your response. I’m not defending Giuliani at all, nor advocating his ascension to the White House. Nor even hinting that i wouild like to see it. Personally, I’m still holding out for Gingrich.
What I am talking about is someone who is fundamentally in accord with the following prinicples:
a. that individuals have rights and that it is the job of governmet to protect them; not expand upon them according to to the whims of the elected, not to warp them out of shape to mollify a small but vocal minority, not fold-spindle-or-mutilate them, and certainly not to selectively enforce the laws in the name of political expediency or to buy the favor of selected groups and voting blocs.
b. that every right has a corresponding responsibilty, whether that right is afforded under the Constitution to the government or to the citizens.
c. that the Constitution means what it says, and that should the day come when some part of the Constitution requires revisiting (as will almost certainy happen from time to time) that the established procudure for amendment be followed. This means that manipulating the courts or making an effort at engineering the electoral process should be verboten, if those methods run roughshod over said Constitution.
d. that there is a separation of church and state for a reason, and never the twain shall meet.
e. that the purpose of an elected representative and an elected government is to see to the needs of the citizens and NOT to the needs of the CEO, the Industry, the Lobbyist or the Media Mogul. The entity does not take precedence over the citizenry, no matter how large the check is.
f. that the next time we elect a president, the prime motivating factor should not be “this guy called Jesus his favorite political philosopher” or “this guy is an idiot”, it should be “this individual is the most qualified for the job”. Perhaps if ‘real’ conservatives like GWB and John McCain had followed ‘conservative’ principles and NOT passed Campaign Finance Reform (three lies for the price of one) things might be otherwise.
Now, having laid out my core beliefs; I have an R after my name. Would you support me? Or is that not ‘conservative’ or ‘republican’ enough for you?
This is just part and parcel of the media’s attempts to play with our minds by letting us know who THEY think would be a great (liberal) candidate for Republicans.
Remember 2000, when Katie Couric gushed over the Today Show about the prospect of Colin Powell being the Repulican nominee?
Look how they pumped up John McCain into believing that he was actually liked by these snakes (he still hasn’t figured it out).
Now enter Rudy.
OK, enlighten me.
If Republicans nominate Rudy, we will not see a genuine conservative nominated again for decades.
I don’t need to read anything, MamaB (although I will check your recommendations out for recreational purposes). I have a Masters in Western Civiliation and know far more about politics, democracy, and the 3,500 year-old traditions and constructions that went into it’s making and shake my head at what they have become.
I truly don’t wish to argue with you, but I simply don’t believe that there are conservatives of the stripe that many portay themselves to be, or for whom many fervently pray for on these threads. I guess what I object to most about some species of ‘conservatism’ is that there is a particularly nasty variety which insists, to everyone’s detriment, that ‘half a loaf is the same as no bread’.
It is this brand of conservatism that ticks me off more than anything else, even though I do realize that many other conservatives are well-meaning folks.
In order to ‘enlighten’ you, you would have to accept some awful truths that might cause your head to explode, or at least might make you think twice about what conservatism is.
Before I go into it, please make sure you truly want an education, and not merely an opportunity to beat your chest and wave your ‘conservative’ credentials around.
Then I’ll be more than happy to ‘enlighten’ you.
