Judging by what took place in the first hours of the Senate immigration debate last week, critics are deluding themselves if they expect lawmakers to improve the bill when debate resumes after the Memorial Day recess. Most of the organized political pressure on the immigration issue is coming from open-borders advocates intent on enabling more illegals to obtain amnesty and bring their relatives to the United States, and from Washington elites on the left and the right who think anyone who doesn't share their permissive philosophy is backward and xenophobic. Unless the American people rise up en masse and tell their senators in no uncertain terms that they cannot accept amnesty, the Senate bill will easily pass and no one should be surprised if it passes with amendments making it even more harmful to taxpayers and detrimental to hometown safety and homeland security.
Two votes in particular that occurred on Thursday illustrate the problem. Sen. Norm Coleman a moderate Minnesota Republican who cannot possibly be termed "anti-immigrant" or a "bomb thrower" introduced an amendment aimed at closing the notorious "sanctuary city" loophole that cities and states are using to avoid compliance with federal immigration law. Section 642 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 was supposed to guarantee that local law-enforcement officials can communicate with with federal law-enforcement agencies regarding suspected immigration violations. But to get around federal immigration law, localities have instituted ordinances barring local law enforcement from even asking whether someone is lawfully in the United States. Mr. Coleman's amendment would permit law-enforcement officers to ask about a person's immigration status during routine investigations. "In a post 9-11 world, it is simply unacceptable for communities to ignore federal laws requiring them to share this type of information with federal authorities," Mr. Coleman said.

We are going to have to be prepared to do what the Left does.
Tie this abortion up in the courts if it passes.
That would buy enough time to elect a new group in Congress to overturn this horrible legislation.
And if that doesn’t work, it’s time for the torches and pitchforks, folks.
A Million Minute Man March?
This has nothing to do with the Presidency.
If Ghengis Khan were President, you would still have the same Congress, and the same laws.
Sounds like a plan
"Can you say watta figgin mess?"
I agree with everything about that title, except the ‘looming’ part.
The Greeks said, "Those whom the Gods would destroy, they first make mad."
I thought it was curiously poetic when I first heard it. Now I get it.
If this is right for America, wouldn't you hate to see what's wrong for America?
Liz, thanks for the laugh—my blood pressure is not having a good day.
It could possible be shut down and/or amended to limit how many can get green cards later.
OTOH, you dont see that happening...
IT IS NOW OR NEVER FOR THE OPEN BORDERS FOLKS.
If this disaster passes, America will soon be FUBAR.
This has nothing to do with the Presidency.
***So the fact that GWB is the driving force behind this bill has nothing to do with it. I’m afraid that your statement is so far out of touch that I have trouble taking you seriously.
It could possible be shut down and/or amended to limit how many can get green cards later.

IT IS NOW OR NEVER FOR THE OPEN BORDERS FOLKS.
If they fail now, they will *NEVER* get amnesty for 12 million. That is why it is vitally important to make a loud noise to stop this. It *can* be stopped. Not necessarily in the Senate, but wounding it in the Senate will perhaps kill it in the House.
Urge every Senator to vote against and share your strong opposition. The time is NOW.
It is not irrevocable immediately. It just sets up a whole new set of rules and regulations for the illegals to follow if they want to keep their ‘temporarily legal’ status. We all know that the current regime of theives in Washington won’t enforce any of them, such as paying a fine, or getting a biometric ID card (whatever that is), or touching back to their country of origin.
However, if a new set of rulers takes charge, they could actually enforce the rules in this new law. If the new law were actually enforced, the government could deport the aliens who are not living up to it. If this travesty becomes law, I guess it’s just a question of whether we are able to elect leaders who will shut down the border, and enforce the law, before we are voted into a permanent minority by the low-skilled, non-English speaking hordes. If this goes through, I think we have about 10 years, maybe less, then it will be irrevocable.
Term limits might put the brakes on some of the insanity that passes for governance in Washington. The securing of the borders needs to begin on Capitol Hill.
It’s just (snort) impossible to deport 12 million people! Where you been boy—livin’ in a 3 bedroom ranch in Fort Wayne? Snort!
But makin’ these guests from Mexico, or uninvited, trespassing lawbreakers, as you call them: you say tomata . . . comply with a couple dozen onerous laws and regulations, well that’s completely `do-able’.
How do I know that?
Well, Billy Kristol over at the Weekly Standard told me.
Next, the Optimists, Elks and Oddfellows are building chapters in Baghdad, Fallujah and Najaf. Ain’t that a hoot? And that Mookie fellow’s gonna join up. Don’t believe me do you?
Well, let’s face it: that’s `cause you’re a bunch of frightened, unpatriotic vigilantes.
But on a more positive note, Billy says they’re going to add a book to the Old Testament*
I agree with have to keep on calling and writing to the Senators and the Representatives and RNC.
“Bears repeating: Unless the American people rise up en masse and tell their senators in no uncertain terms that they cannot accept amnesty, the Senate bill will easily pass and no one should be surprised if it passes with amendments making it even more harmful to taxpayers and detrimental to hometown safety and homeland security.”
I have been saying the same thing for a long time not necessarily here, but to my family and friends.
We have no sign of leadership from those who are running for president and those who are thinking about running for the roses in the future. We need a leader. Period. We need someone who knows how to lead and lead us en masse to take back our country.
Im not saying that person would even want to run for president. We just need a leader or leaders who know how to organize marches/demonstrations against the traitors in Washington.
