WASHINGTON -- The Bush administration and key congressional Democrats and Republicans stepped up their efforts to sell a broad immigration compromise Thursday as lawmakers braced for a public backlash at home.

"Many Americans are rightly skeptical about immigration reform," President Bush said in a Rose Garden news conference. "This bill provides the best chance to reform our immigration system and help us make certain we know who's in our country and where they are."

I believe there is a clause in the amnesty bill that would forgive the fine if “hardship” can be shown. At any rate the fine can be paid over a 10-year period. The devil is in the details, which is why the president an congress want to rush the bill through.

I read that our Presidente specifically insisted that a clause be in this bill that forgives the illegals any past IRS taxes due. Apparently Kennedy hadn’t put this originally in the bill. If I’m wrong about this...well I’d be happy to be wrong about this but I’ve read it a couple of places.

These people are getting handed to them what those of us born here have contributed into the system for years. Illegals want our money, plain and simple, our schooling, our health care, our welfare, without having spent their lives paying in and now apparently Bush is giving them even more. Rewarding the rule breakers - no way to raise kids, no way to run a country. I know exactly what would happen to me if I didn’t pay my taxes - so I pay them. Our government no longer represents us.

Add to it the fact that there is amnesty for employers who knowingly hired illegals, and for states that gave them in-state tuition rates. Maybe some lib reporter will ask the President about that amnesty!

Amnesty isn’t amnesty, just as oral sex isn’t sex.

I if told you that you'd get a sunburn without putting on sunscreen, you'd put on sunscreen. There wouldn't be a big debate about a conspiracy to keep down light skinned people or lamentations about the unfairness of it all.

This screed was written as if it was some big revelation. LOL - practically everyone in Calif knows the score - that's why the #1 thing you must do out here is buy a house, no matter what.

Where I live, illegals are nannies to the kids, serve up the food & maintain the yards. Home owners stop working once the AMT & 50% rates kick in, since everyone is sitting on a pile of equity that will never be taxed. (Either on a rollover or the 55 yo exclusion.) And when a development plan is proposed, they are regularly defeated to keep open space and limit increases to the housing stock.

But here's the big secret: it's not just the oligarchs doing it. It's middle-class folks (in some cases blue-collar) and believe me, everyone is on the game.

I’ve had it with this elitist jackass. I’m getting anxious for January ‘09.

Yes, the bill does grant amnesty. And it further messes up the system. We do not need this bill. We already have laws. We need enforcement of these laws. When our BP agents try to do their job, they are falsely accused and sent to prison. Innocent men are now sitting in prison for some ten years thanks to Johnny Sutton.

Let each member of congress serve 6 years max too

ONLY if you mean a max of 3 2yr terms!! That way, if they are crappy, they can be bumped out in only 2 years.

Also, we need to go back to the constitutional way of electing senators: the state legislators choose them instead of the general populace.

Amnesty or no amnesty I could not get behind this bill on one item alone that Bush or anyone else supporting this cannot deny it is part of the bill - and that is the 24-hour background check.

24 - Hours for some low level government clerk to check someone’s criminal record on both the Federal level and in all local jurisdictions, and to find out if they just may be on the terrorist watch list when they didn’t give you their real name to begin with. It can’t be done. It is impossible...

Me, an American citizen with a squeaky clean record. A hard working, tax paying, church going, flag waving, law abiding American with roots in this country going back to the early 1700’s - Takes 3-days to be checked out before I am aloud to by a hand gun.

"build (and man) the fence"

A fence isn't going to do the job. I can get through any fence with a $30 pair of bolt cutters.....unless the fence is electrified and I can even get around that obstacle.

It has to be a wall with manned machine gun nests from Brownsville to San Diego.

Oh, yes. And even if there weren’t enough clauses in the bill to give the aliens complete, free amnesty, more bills will be added later to do the trick.

In fact, that won’t even be necessary. If we are incapable of doing anything about millions of illegal aliens who scoff at the law, repeatedly get caught drunk driving, steal other people’s identities, and commit various other crimes, then what will we do when they refuse to pay their fines or fees? Nothing, obviously.

Presidents should ONLY be elected for one six year term.

Agreed. Eight years is too long.

Bush, the Democrats, Big Business that are supporting this bill can GO TO HELL. If they want a preview, if anyone wants a preview of what that hell will be like, visit a slum in T.J. or L.A. They (our politicians) have started turning our country into the corrupt hell-hole that used to be south of the border.
Google “Maywood California Gangs” or “Cudahy California Corruption”, if you want to see whats coming to a town near you if they don’t start enforcing the laws on the books! Fight these ASSHOLES or watch the rest of this country turn into the slums that have taken over Southern Ca.
side: Heard yesterday on radio about parents concern in upper middle class Tustin Ca. about daughters public school class where 28 of 31 students speak English as a second language, if at all! Edward James Almost, Actor, Hispanic Activist said on Larry King, “It’s Amnesty”

Does anyone know if the post off still allows one to design their own stamps? If so, perhaps we should all design a sheet of stamps showing the Mex flag waving above the upsidedown American flag. See it in the upper left corner at this website.

http://outragedpatriots.com/

Those stamps would be useful when contacting our traitors, er, Senators. That image on t-shirts would be great too.

Can anyone tell me how to paste images into yahoo emails? I’d like to send that image to my pro illegal senator.
