"Stop, or else!"
That's the message from a local mom who is fed up with a self-proclaimed pedophile and his Web site that guides predators to young girls.
Jack McClellan admits he's a pedophile, whose full-time job is trolling for little girls. Once he finds them he puts that information on his site -- it's essentially a how-to guide for pedophiles.
"I'm mad, I'm mad somebody can invade our lives that way and it's okay, it's not okay!" says Sabrina, a concerned and determined Eastside mother.
Sabrina stopped Jack McClellan once, but he's back.
"The main thing -- I think they're cute, a lot cuter than women," McClellan said during a March interview.
Sabrina is determined to stop McClellan again. "I saw the site and the fear started welling up inside of me," she said.
What she saw was her own daughter's picture and personal details posted on McClellan's site. We won't use Sabrina's last name or her daughter's first name to protect the young girl's identity.
McClellan's site is a guide designed to help pedophiles find little girls from Bellingham to Tacoma. McClellan, Sabrina says, found her daughter at her school.
Even more disturbing to Sabrina -- she was with her daughter when Jack McClellan snapped the photographs. She was sitting about 50 yards away and had no idea McClellan was in the area, and no idea he was taking pictures of her daughter.
She warns parents to be vigilant everywhere and if strangers are lurking, ask questions. "I constantly am introducing myself to people I don't know, I tell them why I'm there and I ask 'why are you here?' "
She says challenge everyone, even school districts and their no-trespassing policies.
Now that McClellan's site is up again, Sabrina knows complaints aren't enough. She needs the law on her side.
State Senator Val Stevens says she was outraged when she learned McClellan's site was up and running again. She vowed in March when a Virginia Web provided pulled the plug on his site to keep him off-line.
"It's just a sicko that would want to use children in this manner," said Stevens.
The senator from the 39th District knows McClellan is not breaking any laws -- his first amendment rights allow him to do what he's doing.
So Stevens wants to change the law. She's drafting legislation for the next session. She says right now police officers are protected as Web sites can't post personal information about them.
"Why can't we do that for our children too?" asks Stevens. Her warning to McClellan: Stop or else.
"We're after you, guy, so help me!" warns Stevens.
"I think he needs to be put in his place, I think he needs to stop using children for his own selfish pleasures," says a determined Sabrina.
McClellan has not returned any calls for comment. His web site is now run by a Montreal-based web provider, and on the site McLellan says that because of "death threats" he won't make any public statements about his site.
Since McClellan is using a Canadian web provider, any Washington law could be toothless. Senator Stevens says she's aware of that and insists legislation has to start in our state - then she says she'll push for a federal law.
She's working with local child advocacy group Mother's Against Sexual Predators, who are just as determined as Sabrina.
Thats not a cure, thats common sense for any parent.
Would it be legal under that law then to take pictures of him IN PUBLIC (perhaps catching him taking his pictures of children) and pass them out to all area groups and events where children will be present? This could be a public service announcement for people who do not consent to having their child’s picture taken by him (or allowing their child to be used by him to promote his pedophilia) so they and their children can avoid it and him. His picture should be plastered on every local event’s website so parents can be on alert for him and others like him who are photographing our children without consent.
After all, if it is legal for him to take pictures of children in public without consent and post their pics and info, shouldn’t it be legal for parents to do the same thing to him if they catch him in public at an event where their child is?
There must be something under the law that he uses to continue and protect his sickening behavior that others can use to do the same thing to him. If not, the law needs to be changed. Any law that protects the predator and binds the victim is unacceptable! People, find out what your lawmakers are doing about this. Let them know that our children are more important to us than making a pedophile feel bad and hold them accountable too!
Stolen! (With your permission), for my FR "about" page, attribution to you, and a typo corrected, of course. I have never seen it put better.
I think you’re right. Although, I always thought that it was illegal to photograph minors without permission.
Wasn’t there a guy in Seattle that killed a couple of kid sex predators? He found their names and addresses on the government website that lists where these animals live.
Or am I thinking of another location?
I thought so too...apparently it is only illegal for people that do not want to exploit our children to take pictures of them without consent.
Posting a photo online is not molestation. Punish the wrong acts he commits, not every act committed by someone who has committed wrong acts in the past. Otherwise, you might as well throw out the entire Constitution.
Don't allow our appallingly poor politicians to start saying that anything that might scare someone should be tightly monitored, controlled, or forbidden.
Interesting, we can restrict free speech before an election but cannot protect our most precious resource, our children. Convenient how the 1ST amendment works for some people.
The genius’ in MA made it an offense carrying a two year sentence to do what you suggest.
—Don’t allow our appallingly poor politicians to start saying that anything that might scare someone should be tightly monitored, controlled, or forbidden.—
That is not the issue in this case. Pedophilia not only scares people but is ILLEGAL; and this guy not only promotes it but shows people how to get away with it (at least in its early stages). If that does not warrant tight monitoring, then I don’t know what does...
"Are you Sarah Connors?"
Make no mistake, I’m all for stopping government intervention in almost any respect.
But these are children that this guy is posting pictures of, 3 - 11 year old children, the ones that should be protected from animals like this man.
So to tell you the truth, I don’t want to hear any libertarian arguments in this case, it’s illegal, immoral, and should carry the stiffest of jail sentences imaginable.
This guy is giving every perverted whack job pictures and locations of children, and do you really think none of them would try to get close, hurt, kidnap, or kill one of these children, if so you are truly naive my friend.
No, they don't.
Happened to us once, and the newspaper told me they don't need permission, as long as the subjects are in a public setting.
People talk so much about gateway drugs...how about gateway acts of pedophilia? Just as people that promote using drugs are monitored, so should this be.
People talk about the “warning signs” concerning acts of violence like the VT shooter. What could have been done to stop it? How can laws be changed to avoid it in the future and protect us? How can the red flags be monitored to avoid these acts?
We do these things to protect ourselves...now we need to protect our children from being used as gateways to more severe and brutal forms of pedophilia.
NO, not all abnormal or scary to some behaviors should be monitored by law, but THIS sort of behavior should be and with the right laws, can be.
Mom needs to exercise her own constitutional rights and buy a gun. Then she should shoot this guy, drag him over to her house, then call the cops.
Posting a photo of a minor on a site specifically dedicated to directing pedophiles to where young girls can be found is definitely intimidation. There may not be a law against that, but it is certainly immoral.
This guy better be glad I'm not this girl's mother. He would be dead in such a way that the cops would have no choice but to believe he was killed breaking in to molest my daughter.
Like many school performances, I wished this could have gone on longer, but it was a wonderful hour of GL entertainment that included several LGs [Little Girs?l whom I rated above-average on my 1-10 cuteness scale (one of them earned a bonus point for missing baby teeth). This is reportedly an annual event, and I'd definitely do it again!
[A skating event] Whatever your taste in LGs, they were here -- right down to some very young cuties who looked like they recently learned to walk.
Fewer and fewer neighborhoods have the close cohesiveness for a unified response. With all this integration and diversification that's been forced down our throats the caring attitude about your neighbor has been replaced with I don't give a damn about "them".
