Racial incident at school overwhelms Louisiana town

The trouble in Jena started with the nooses. Then it rumbled along the town's racial fault lines. Finally, it exploded into months of violence between blacks and whites.

Now the 3,000 residents of this small lumber and oil town deep in the heart of central Louisiana are confronting Old South racial demons many thought had long ago been put to rest.

Advertisement One morning last September, students arrived at the local high school to find three hangman's nooses dangling from a tree in the courtyard.

In NYC most of the schools have stairwells which white students are not permitted to use. There are no signs posted. Your first inkling of this "rule" is a punch in the face, followed by a "stompin'", which is par for the course with blacks (as in this case).

If it happened to my kid it would be followed by a good old-fashioned lynching.

I read the timeline long ago.

However, in my Louisiana, I believe that black kids and white kids should be able to sit where ever they want in the school yard without violence or a threat of violence.

I also believe that in my Louisiana, that placing a noose in order to intimidate blacks is the same as drawing or painting a swastika to intimidate Jews.

And in my Louisiana, a group of kids who attack another kid for what ever reason should face the legal consequences.

I do not think we are in disagreement.

Fine, punish the white kids if they beat up blacks, but let’s not start going and painting the “Jena Six” as heroes or victims.

We’re not all kooky.

Many of us are intelligent, well-informed, hard working, honest, conservative, family-loving, Christian people who just want to live our lives and be left alone!

I wasn’t trying to imply that you were, but a lot of the protestors down there are. They are trying to defend criminals.

I say if their problem is if blacks are punished more than whites from crimes, they should not be demanding the release of the black criminals, but rather for the harsher sentences for whites who commit the crimes.

I agree with every point you have made.

And yes, the attack on that kid was brutal but we also have to recognize that the placing of the nooses at the school was sick and demented.

What hasn’t been reported is that the kids were punished for the incident more than just a suspension. The DOJ and the FBI both found NO evidence of a hate crime for the noose incident and that both black and white kids sat under the tree.

In case you are wondering the US Attorney, Donald Washington, investigating this for the DOJ is a black man who was appointed by President Bush and has a reputation for being tough but fair. Do facts even matter anymore?

No doubt, and those students have been dealt with accordingly.

I am not sure if putting the nooses in the tree was a hate crime but I do know that it was a sick, and demented act that could only be done by a racist sociopath

The DOJ and the FBI both investigated the incident and found that the beating of Justin Barker by the gang of six wasn’t related in any way, shape or form. Let’s stick to the facts.

Justin Barker had NOTHING to do with the noose hanging and did not deserve to have the crap beat out of him PERIOD. These thugs, check their myspace out and see that they call themselves that, were a nuisance to their community for years. The race pimps are hanging their hat on the wrong people. These kids will commit more crimes because they are being lauded and applauded for their criminal behavior.

i do not think I have defended any one of the Jena 6. As for as I am concerned to Jena 6 should be held accountable for what they did.

And the kids who hung the nooses in the tree are Ignorant Racist Thugs.

Those kids have been punished but because of them being minors and the fact that the incident did not break any federal hate crime laws per the investigation by the FBI and the DOJ the identity of the kids can’t be published. They did get punished for their actions. They didn’t harm anyone physically unlike the Jena Six. Those kids have been beating up on people for a couple of years.

The race pimps are blaming the noose incident for the Jena Six but there is no evidence or proof that the two are related. Yet Jesse, Al, Nation of Islam, and the Black Panthers are promising to wipe out the town if the thugs aren’t released.

Since the two incidents aren’t related why keep bringing them up?

I find the support for these six thugs offensive. They committed a serious felony. A person was hurt. This has nothing to do with the nooses where, as I understand, nobody was hurt, and has not relationship to this case. The message it sends out is that beating up a white person is not big deal, but don’t you dare to hang a noose from a tree. How absurd is that?

I don’t care what was the chronilogical order of events but both the Jenna Six and the kids who hung the nooses in the tree are thugs.

“it’s utterly ridiculous...and the need for white folks to show how friggin sensitive they are to it is a mass neurosis”

We also get all the “when I lived in the South for six months” stories on FR. There was a parade of people calling in to the radio show I listen to here in Colorado talking about how they’ve been to the South and racism is alive and well there.

Bottom line is you had six Blacks acting like dishonorable savages and everyone else is to blame. The cries from the professional race baiter's is the same old spoiled, childlike behavior they’ve always exhibited.

The difference seems to be that the kids who hung the noose haven’t gotten into more trouble nor have they beat up anyone. They fulfilled their punishment requirements and have stayed out of trouble.

The Jena six did get in trouble several times before and after “the noose incident”. One of the Six has FOUR prior convictions. Two are for battery and two are for criminal destruction of property. People are saying that one of the convictions for Mychal Bell is for sexual assault on a young black girl.

Several of the other criminal Six are repeat offenders for physically assaulting other people. While hanging a noose is bad, having the crap beat out of you by six fully grown athletes is much worse.

None of the Criminal Six’ actions are related to the noose incident per the DOJ and the FBI. I will stick to their findings over the rhetoric of the race pimps.

No one was hurt with the noose incident and most students never even saw them since they were removed at 7:15 am.

It is offensive to try and resurrect the Selma incidents when they are light years apart. Hell had those kids not been athletes they would have been in juvenile detention long ago.
