A paleo-bully of sorts, Tyrannosaurus rex could chomp down on prey with the force needed to lift a semitrailer, tearing apart a victim's bones. Now researchers have discovered the dino's secret weapon: It was hard-headed.
"Fused, archlike nasal bones are a unique feature of tyrannosaurids," said lead scientist Eric Snively of the University of Alberta. "This adaptation, for instance, was keeping the T. rexes from breaking their own skull while breaking the bones of their prey."

Oh, much like my kids when they were babies. Their daily head knocks on my cheek would nearly put me into a coma.
Do these people really listen to what comes out of their mouths?
So, some TRex's died because their snout bones broke. Then, magically, the remaining T-Rex's decided to grow thicker snouts? How does this... "oh, he must have died due to a weak snout so when I have baby-rex's I will make sure their snouts are thicker" come about?
It wasn't undirected.
In total Ignorance, the mind is blind.
I think you might misunderstand it a bit, or just have it backwards.
According to the “theory” of evolution, it would suggest that the ones that have more fragile or thinner snouts would not live to reproduce and pass on their genetic material and produce more thinner snouted T-Rexes as their progeny, but that the thicker-snouted T-Rexes WOULD survive and reproduce.
Over time the thicker-snouted T-Rexes would become the dominant variant. At least that is the mechanism that the theory espouses as an explaination.
Oh boy, this thread will now go into a death spiral. I’ll get the popcorn.
Yep. A favorite hobby of mine is now to see how many posts it takes on a science-related thread before some biblical/anti-darwin/creationism post appears. Kind of like “IBTC” In Before the Creationist...
LOL...you did notice that I put the word “theory” in scare quotes...:)
(Damn you, rlmorel, you TOUCHED THE THIRD RAIL OF FREE REPUBLIC!)
And scales decided to evolve to feathers... and bones lighter and weaker for birds.. First stronger and then weaker.. and then denser for those that live in water.. DNA must be a programmer that writes its own programs.. What ever is needed DNA will produce..
Mankind is currently evolving into people that believe nothing so that they can be seduced into believing tales and yarns children would turn up their noses at.. Evolution is magic with Shamans and everything..
*sigh* yeah. Mine used to bang his head on the wall just for the sheer joy of hearing the window rattle...
BTW...that was not my intent to hijack poor Renfield’s thread...in my opinion, if someone is going to criticize something, they should at least have what they are criticizing interpreted correctly.
On a related note, did you think I was off base in my gentle correction of the other Freeper? Or in the interest of maintaining thread viability, should I have just let it pass?
And all this time I thought it was Marc Bolan. Bang A Gong (Get It On)
In any population there are stronger and weaker individuals. Stronger individuals were able to bring down bigger prey and ate better.
Weaker individuals DIED trying to bring down bigger prey.
Guess which ones reproduced. Hint: It wasn’t the dead ones.
The next generation’s parents were ones that had genes for stronger skulls.
Their population was deficient in weak skulled individuals.
Repeat many generations.
By the insane unfathomable, illogical, unBibilcal and positively satanic natural selection, by evil black magic, T. Rex ends up with stronger skulls to cope with bigger prey.
T Rex’s greatest weakness was letting Gloria Jones drive.
Dunno. Sometimes ya just gotta respond...
I don’t think Marc ever learned to drive. Not a good decision.
LOL. Good one, but it will be lost on most in this forum.
