Mitt Romney on the Contract With America [He opposed it]
Youtube ^ | October 27, 1994 | Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney:

"If you want to get something done in Washington you don't end up picking teams, with Republicans on one side, and Democrats on the other... I don't like winners and losers in Washington. I'd rather say 'Let's get together and work together.'"

'With close numbers in the House and the Senate, there will be no real reform without real bipartisanship. Too often, what we are seeing isn’t an effort to find solutions, but rather insults and purely partisan politics. There are many good and responsible people in government who are willing to work together – but the level of bipartisanship needed for real progress can only be achieved when politicians perceive that the American people demand it. Fred Thompson, May 18, 2007

Worth repeating.

But according to his homepage, EV supports Alan Keyes for president in '08.

He arrived for public service, albeit over-educated, smart and savvy, but he was also, perhaps, a bit idealistic and maybe naive about working as a "compassionate conservative."

Wait a minute. You think that the practically across-the-board liberalism Romney demonstrated throughout his career was "idealism"? Wow. You have a funny view about the definition of that word.

You have a funny definition of "across the board liberalism" given Mitt's life, faith, focus and family.

Gelato, you can go on about it, but Romney has backed himself into a conservative corner. There is no getting out.

And unlike your candidate, he CAN WIN in the general.

Right. Unlike Romney, he's been a conservative for longer than a week and a half.

Yep. Mitt is now running for the GOP nomination and needs the votes of conservatives. So he's tailoring his viewpoints accordingly.

I don't support Tancredo's bid, but he had the best line of the other night's debate about conversions on the road to Des Moines. Conservative epiphanies are much more convincing when they are not concurrent with a run for a new office. Bill Clinton ran as a centrist but remained a liberal at heart. Romney has not convinced me that his conversion is anything more than a strategic move.

I believe the way Mitt has lived his personal life, speaks volumes about what he truly believes.

Mitt Romney has LIVED the family values so many of us espouse. We need that kind of example in a president.

Reid is pro-life and pro-gun too -— maybe you should vote for him. It is the socialist and isolationist Reid which differentiates him from Romney and makes him unacceptable to conservatives.

That's a funny way to excuse his serial flip-flops.

And unlike your candidate, he CAN WIN in the general.

When have I ever said who my candidate is? I haven't chosen one yet. And Romney is doing a poor job of trying to earn my vote. He is an incredibly weak candidate, and would be easy for any Democrat to defeat.

EV has axes and axes and axes to grind. I’m hoping Romney will get the nomination, and if he is as good as I think he is, he will.
I don’t care how many times he changed opinions. I trust him to do what he says he will if elected. No one has ever found dirt on him. Good family man, good business man, good man, very smart. Did I mention good looking? lolol....
