(May 17) Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and other Senate negotiators announced an agreement with the Bush Administration on an amnesty/guestworker bill today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has set a May 21 cloture vote to begin debate on the bill.
Although the legislative language is not available yet, key components of the "compromise" include:
An immediate amnesty for nearly all 12-20 million illegal aliens who will get legal status for residence and jobs (with assurance of green cards no later than 13 years);
Mandatory workplace verification and some extra enforcement to try to slow the flow of the next 12 million illegal aliens enticed by the amnesty;
Tripling of the rate of chain migration of extended family from around 250,000 a year to around 750,000 a year for about a decade; and
New flows of 400,000 temporary foreign workers each year, bringing their families and having anchor babies who will be given U.S. citizenship.

Switch to what??? If there is any difference in the dems and the pubs its really hard to find.
NRO and other sites are reporting from sources on the Hill that the deal has already broken down within the Senate.
As usual, the liberals race to the microphones and TV cameras with no clue whatsoever. They have no shame and cannot be embarrassed, because the MSM will cover for them and finish their sentences, anyway.
Even if passed in the Senate, this bill can be killed in the House or in conference.
Our GOP presidential candidates will also apply incredible pressure on elected GOP members to reverse course.
Fred Thompson should jump on this immediately.
I would never vote for a dem. There actually are 2 other parties out there.
Mine are Byah and Lugar, and what makes it worse, I have Julia Carson for a Rep.
“I’m done - It’s third party time?”
I’m not quite ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater...
but the GOP definitely needs a housecleaning and a testicle & backbone implant!
Conservatives just need to TAKE BACK THEIR PARTY!
I called Jim Gerlach (R-PA), my representative, and the woman who answered there said he would absolutely NOT support it or vote for it.
Actually if you really want to know what this is about, it is about broadening the tax base.
In addition to calling, a more complicated but not very difficult way to block this is to discredit those who support amnesty. If someone loses credibility and thus support over this issue, that will send a message to all the rest.
Imagine how things would change if at every appearance someone like Bill Richardson was asked tough questions about amnesty, and those questions revealed the flaws in the arguments of those who push amnesty. And, his answers were promoted with Youtube, blogs, forums, etc.

Heck, just go down and sign up as an illegal. At least you bothered to learn English, you know how to use a computer you're a conservative, and because you post at FR, you are intelligent. LOL
Good news.But if I was a PA resident I'd call Specter.After all he voted correctly on that WOT surrender bill a few weeks ago so maybe...just *maybe*...he'd listen to reason.
You need to check Fred Thompson’s record regarding illegal immigration. He is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.
I wouldn’t vote for a dem either..We’re in a hell-of-a-mess looking for a party..Let me know if you find one that supports the rule of law and I’ll come with you.
At least with the Dems, you know what you’re getting. I disagree with 95% of their agenda, but they’re honest about and don’t go backstabbing their constituents like the Republicans have. I’ll never vote for a Democrat, but by not voting for Republicans, its pretty much a vote for them until there is a truly Conservative party established. Hopefully this debacle will provide the motivation for the creation of such a party, but until then, I am not voting for Republicans until they prove they’re not a bunch of back-stabbing liars.
I loathe Specter. He's like a particularly hardy fungus.

And entitlements, gangs, lowering living standards for everyone....
I AM SORRY TO SAY IT BUT AMERICA IS NOT IN ANY WAY THE COUNTRY WE GREW UP IN! THIS IS JUST A FORETASTE OF THINGS TO COME. OUR CONSTITUTION WILL BE NEXT! IF THE DEMONCRATS GET INTO THE WHITEHOUSE IT MAY BE OUR LAST FREE ELECTION. THAT OF COURSE IS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO BUT VERY POSSIBLE. LAW MEANS NOTHING ANY MORE. THE ONLY THING THAT REALLY MATTERS AT THE TOP WORKING IT’S WAY DOWN IS CLOUT AND SHEAR BRUTE FORCE. POWER IS THE NAME OF THE GAME AND LAW AND ORDER AND THE CONSTITUTION IS A THING OF THE PAST RIGHT NOW. IT’S CALLED ANARCHY/FASCISM. WHAT WE NEED IS A HUGH GRASSROOTS POLITICAL MOVEMENT. THAT WOULD TAKE UNDERSTANDING JUST WHAT TO SAY AND DO TO GET THE POPULACE GEARED UP. IT WOULD TAKE GETTING OUT THE MESSAGE IN A CLEAR EASY ARTICULATE WAY. LETTING THE COUNTRY KNOW THAT THINGS HAVE GONE AMOK THAT WE ARE LOSING OUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS. AND ALSO SEVERAL GREAT MEN/WOMEN TO GET OUT THERE AND SPEAK UP ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. DEDICATION. DEDICATION.
I can’t disagree with anything you’re saying..
You must be kidding. I hope that was sarcasm.
