(May 17) Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and other Senate negotiators announced an agreement with the Bush Administration on an amnesty/guestworker bill today. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has set a May 21 cloture vote to begin debate on the bill.

Although the legislative language is not available yet, key components of the "compromise" include:

An immediate amnesty for nearly all 12-20 million illegal aliens who will get legal status for residence and jobs (with assurance of green cards no later than 13 years);

Mandatory workplace verification and some extra enforcement to try to slow the flow of the next 12 million illegal aliens enticed by the amnesty;

Tripling of the rate of chain migration of extended family from around 250,000 a year to around 750,000 a year for about a decade; and

New flows of 400,000 temporary foreign workers each year, bringing their families and having anchor babies who will be given U.S. citizenship.

Are the Republicans insane, stupid or closet socialists?

All three at once. The only difference from the Democrats is the closet, apparently.

We’ve been sold out again. I just read an AP report. The first thing that happens is illegals step forward to get a normalization card so they can stay here without worry. The border, forget it.

I say we eliminate trhe Border service (those we have not sent to jail for doing their job) and use the money to help pay the welfare costs of our new invaders.

Just think of the good news; we won’t need to have have any more threads about all the crime illegals commit. (there won’t be any more illegals).

Mine are Snowe and Collins and neither will support the country on this. My congressman is Tom Allen who has an almost perfect democrat voting record.

Stupid and insane for sure. I never thought I’d do this, but I am officially changing my voter registration to “I” because of this idiotic compromise. I’ve been a proud Republican since I turned 18 and have swayed a great number of my friends during the past 20 years, but I’m officially done with this party full of liars and betrayers.

“Kyl’s phone mailboxes are full.”

The White House is not answering the phone again.

Thanks for the link. Both my Senators have my opinion on the matter. Basically I said if the rule of law means anything they would agree not to support any type of amnesty.

FRegards,

This is from my Congressman - Roscoe Bartlett

The Secure Fence Act (H.R. 6061) was signed into law on October 26. I voted in favor of that bill. I also voted in favor of three other stringent immigration bills that came up for a vote on September 21: the Immigration Law Enforcement Act (H.R. 6095), the Community Protection Act of 2006 (H.R. 6094) and the Border Tunnel Prevention Act (H.R. 4830). 11 to 12 million illegal aliens have crossed our borders.

The fact is that our borders are being actively compromised, our sovereignty is challenged and our national security is at risk.

Our national immigration policy is one of the most important issues in America, and we need an aggressive and effective policy.

Ineffective immigration policy means more than a loss of jobs and lower wages for American workers and drastically increased costs to government. With fictitious identities, terrorists enjoy an open invitation to our country.

FBI Assistant Director Steven McCraw called fictitious identities “an opportunity for terrorists to move freely in the United States.”

How do we stop the influx of illegal aliens into our country?

First, we have to secure American’s borders. I have voted for and support installing an effective barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border and making every effort to prevent illegal immigration through other points of entry. I have voted to put troops on the border (as long as it is consistent with the Posse Comitatus Act), and I have voted to put a wall on the border.

Second, no matter how long they have been here, illegal means illegal. Illegal aliens are criminals. We can not reward illegal behavior and preserve respect for the Rule of Law in our country. That is why I oppose amnesty for illegal immigrants. Disguising amnesty as some sort of guest worker program is a distinction without a difference. I have voted against every attempt to directly or indirectly grant amnesty.

Third, we must enforce our existing laws against illegal immigration.

Fourth, we must prosecute those responsible for facilitating illegal immigration to the fullest extent of the law. The U.S. Government must imprison anyone involved in producing false documentation of any kind.

Fifth, I support establishing by law that English is our country’s official language.

Lastly, we must enforce the Real ID Act. This new federal law that I supported establishes standards of proof of citizenship or legal residence for federal acceptance of any state or local government-issued form of identification cards.

I am proud to be a member of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, and I will keep working to protect our borders.

I have had it, I just switched parties. I am tired of messing with them.

If it gets to Bush's desk, he'll sign it, then I'm with you.

In these days of razor thin election margins, I'm sure the Republicans have a "comprehensive" plan to deal with 20 million new Dem voters and the loss of the conservative wing of the Republican party.

Already did.
You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.
The bill is an amnesty bill.

I just sent a email to the RNC telling them that if they go thru with this, I’m done. They won’t get another penny and I’ll become an independent. What cowardice!!!

Are you sure of that? Just a few weeks ago they both voted correctly on the WOT surrender bill. That makes me suspect that they could be more sensitive to pressure than, for example, the two filthbags that my state has sent to DC.

Our Sen - Judd Gregg - warmed us up for this with an editorial in last night's Union Leader.

I predict he and Sununu don't get another term.

I'm done - It's third party time.

You’re dead-on about that. I don’t get angry very often as age had settled me down. But for goodness sakes, the Rule of Law has just been diminished and my party did it. And if they think Kyle is gonna give them cover on this becasue he’s liked by many conservatives, they’ve got another think a comin!

McCain is toast in the primary’s now.
