ISLAMABAD: The 34th session of Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (ICFM) will start here on Tuesday to prepare strategy and adopt measures for the projection and promotion of peace, progress and harmony. Delegations from 57 member states of OIC are expected to participate in the Conference being held at the Jinnah Convention Center here, said Foreign Office spokespersons. Tasnim Aslam. The spokesperson told a weekly media briefing that extensive arrangements have been made in the capital for reception, accommodation and transportation of over 600 delegates from member states, observer states and organizations and other subsidiary organs of the OIC. The delegations have started arriving in Islamabad for the conference. The spokesperson said Pakistan assumed the Chairmanship of ICFM at a critical juncture for the Ummah, adding that the foreign ministers are expected to adopt resolutions on the whole range of political, economic social and cultural issues. The theme of the interactive ministerial session will be "Countering Discrimination and Intolerance against Muslims and defamation of Islam", she added. A number of important meetings will be held on the sidelines of the ICFM including a session of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir at the ministerial level. Over the last four decades, OIC has maintained unstinted support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their longstanding and just struggle to realize their right to self-determination. The Contact Group mechanism and appointment of OIC Secretary General's Special Representative on Jammu and Kashmir have been helpful to the efforts aimed at peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute. Pakistan has always been an active member of OIC with an abiding commitment to the principles and objectives of the Organization. The OIC Secretary General, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, will deliver a statement at the inaugural session to highlight his efforts to reform the Organization and stimulate its role and performance. He will also brief the Conference on the efforts and initiatives taken to meet the challenges confronting the Islamic world and review the progress achieved in the implementation of the OIC Ten-Year Programme of Action adopted by the Third Extraordinary Islamic Summit held in Makkah Al Mukarramah. The Conference will also discuss economic issues and cooperation among member states in the areas of science and technology, information, health, environment, cultural and social affairs and the OIC universities. The issue of Islamophobia and inter-faith harmony will be discussed and the conference will prepare strategies to foster mutual understanding and dialogue between the Islamic world and the West. The conference will adopt an "Islamabad Declaration". |
OIC?
Office of the Independent Council?
Gee, now it’s discriminatory to not want to be blown up, killed, be beheaded or have your country overrun by towel-heads.
How dare anybody deny them of the right to cut off as many heads as they want. Next society will demand that they stop planting car bombs in public squares and stoning women for not covering themselves. /s
An earlier thread on CAIR’s predictable warnings of “backlash” against the Muslim community as a result of the Fort Dix Six made a great conclusion: a constant campaign of whipping up paranoia in Muslims is necessary to guarantee that they continue their efforts toward world domination.
Those who set off car bombs in crowded markets in the name of Islam should receive special attention as defamers of Islam.
