Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani says he feels "very, very passionate" about abortion and opposes picking Supreme Court nominees based on their view of the ruling that legalized abortion.
"My view is that there shouldn't be a litmus test on Roe against Wade," the former New York City mayor said. "I'm going to select strict constructionist judges. They're free to take a look at Roe against Wade, take a look at the limitations, but I believe I should leave it to them to decide that."
Giuliani repeatedly has defended his positions, which have been criticized as contradictory, on late-term abortion, public funding for abortions and the Roe v. Wade decision.
"I'm very, very passionate about the issue of abortion," he said. "I oppose it. That's a principle I've held forever, and I'll hold it forever. That's not going to change. But I also believe that in a society like ours, where people have very, very different consciences about this, it's best to respect each others' differences and allow for choice."
For GOP conservatives who could determine the outcome in the primaries, opposition to abortion has been a litmus test. Giuliani's support for abortion rights has drawn criticism from some in the party.
One president rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, has drawn complaints for his switch from supporting abortion rights to opposing the procedure. Another GOP rival, Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback, has said that an abortion-rights Republican would have trouble winning the nomination.
Giuliani's interview on "Fox New Sunday" was broadcast Sunday.
I watched the interview on Fox. Wallace kept hammering him on abortion, gun rights and homosexual agenda issues. Rudy was feeling the heat literally and figuratively - sweating very noticeably with beads on the forehead and upper lip. At first I thought the studio was too hot, but Wallace wasn’t sweating at all.
The "best" part was when Chris Wallace asked Rudy--over and over and over--to explain why he believes abortion to be wrong. Rudy was completely incapable of an explanation. He makes Bill Clinton look and sound saintly.
He stumbled on gun rights as well. I thought that Wallace should have pushed more on Rudy to explain what “reasonable restrictions” to the second amendment means. I think I know - to Rudy handguns should be outlawed and only hunters would be allowed to have rifles.
Of course, I never expected to see a liberal excite parts of the Republican Party the way that Rudy has.
Somewhere, pigs are flying.
Well remember he is a Democrat. They count on the voters for being delusional. This Rooty campaign has really skewed the GOP and if the RATs know that social issue oriented conservatives are not liking Rooty, we might see an Obama trying to pretend to be a little right leaning thinking he might peel some votes off.
This is why I think Rooty must go and go soon.
He is screwing up all over the place out there and it probably won't be too long before his next gaffe. LOL!
He's not delusional. I have first hand experience. A coworker of mine who is extremely conservative, but not terribly well-informed, told me excitedly about this new Obama guy who he thought was a great speaker. Once I informed him of some of Obama's more extreme liberal opinions he almost got sick.
The point is, just because someone is conservative doesn't mean that they can't be misled by a good salesman (Obama.) As a matter of fact, it's getting easier and easier as people can tell you all about American Idol, but can't name their own Senators.
He lost my vote, but of course he never had my vote to begin with anyway.
Vote RON PAUL for President 2008!!!!!!!
The ruthlessness of Rooty and his handlers----power-tripping on the backs of the unborn----is astounding. This public exhibition of their raw thirst for power is unprecedented. Keep in mind the overriding goal here is the Repub Party takeover, to have liberals control all facets of the US government.
Despite overwhelming odds that he cannot and will not win, it's most probable Ruthless Rooty will use every trick in the book, including voter fraud, to stay in the race. We should not underestimate the Rudester and his ruthless handlers. Nor should we underestimate the Rootyites' insatiable thirst and pathological need for power.
Keep in mind that Rooty is the lapdog of the ruthless "Endless War Hopefuls." The Hopefuls have conjectured that "if" an "international incident" or "financial crisis" occurred, voters would look to Rooty as their savior.
The fact that Rooty is holding fast indicates that it's more than likely Rooty's handlers will manufacture and precipitate these incidences for their boy (easily done with Rooty's international political and business connections).
Notice too that candidate Rooty keeps harping on the two issues of terrorism and financial stability. The script is already written.........look for the denouement closer to the primaries.
Ruthless Rooty is conscienceless, lies with impunity, and has absolutely no shame (the signs of a sociopath). As TommyDale posted: "If people had a problem accepting their loss of freedoms under the Patriot Act, wait until they see what Rudy will do!"
re Bush/Guiliani/judges...Bush is pro-life so he has a LOT more lattitude in talking about judges than Rudy
Extreme = No restrictions until the cord is cut (or after if the woman really really want it) and tax payers pay for it.
Interesting you would say that, Toe sucking Dicky Morris is already spinning the Fort Dix Six as being a boon for the Rooty campaign.
Since Rooty can only run on fear and taxes, he is dead.
The media and the RATs will define what the election is going to be about whether we like it or not, they will not allow it to be about terror so Rooty is going to be defeated because he has nothing else to offer conservative voters.
I’ve been wondering the very same thing. Let me know if you get any replies to this. My read on rudy’s character is that he lacks the honor; he would go off the reservation in a heartbeat and already has done so. For instance, he once ran on the liberal ticket, and he also endorsed the democrat Mario Cuomo over the republican Pataki. He is a man with very few core honorable principles.
Thank you for being there to set him straight. Good grief.
I think that he is gambling on a sure win in the primary and is already trying to run to the left of Hillary.
I was about to post a comment saying: Farewell, Rudy! Don’t let the door hit you in the butt!
However, you beat me to it. Good for you.

If it comes down to Hitlery vs Satan Incarnate, I will heartily pull the lever for Satan and drag 10 friends, relatives, neighbors, and/or coworkers to the polls to do likewise.
The image you posted reminds me of the liberal tactics used against rudy when he was mayor. The Nazi reference is truly democrat inspired. take a bow.
Many of us who are nonreligious oppose Rudy not because of abortion, but because of his incompetance, his corrupt associations, and the fact that he was LOSING to Hillary in all polls before he conveniently dropped out of the senate race.
